Well done mate, flood conditions can make things difficult, you caught some lovely looking shy biting fish there and made it look easy. The strike around the 5 minute mark was fast! On camera the bite was barely perceptible. Chub do seem to pluck at the bait sometimes don't they which is in stark contrast to other times when they can aggressively grab a lure.
@markerd5378 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Beesa, yes they can be quite wily at mouthing baits and not giving the game away at times. You always have to decipher between current, debris and a crafty chub, warily mouthing the bait.

I left the U.K in the early 80's and the chub in the U.K appear to be much bigger these days.
@markerd5378 Жыл бұрын
I'd say that's correct in the case of quote a few species. The crayfish boom has created quite a lot of this , which is of course not a good thing and quite damaging to the future of juvenile fish recruitment and newer stocks coming through. Sure the high protein diet of crayfish for adult fish does mean they pack on the weight,but alas it doesn't help future fish coming through due to fish eggs being consumed by the high crayfish populations most of our rivers now have especially down south.

Nice job as usual Mark. You know I hear you speak on sewage quite often. How bad is it really over there. Are they not regulated? I know all large companies are not to be trusted but how bad is it affecting you fish?
@markerd5378 Жыл бұрын
Hey Darion and thanks mate. Sadly our water companies are privatised and the independent regulatory bodies that are supposed to keep them under scrutiny are not good at their job. To tell you how bad it is in the UK, whenever we get serious rainfall our sewage treatment systems become overloaded and then overflow and pump into rivers. For example one of my local rivers had just recently no less than 970 hours of constant sewage being pumped into it, that's around 38 days of constant pollution. The water companies in the UK pay their CEO big bonuses, they make vast profits but haven't put enough money into modernisation of the current water treatment structure. Corruption is rife and our supposed bastions that are there to protect our waterways are also letting us down.

Great video Mark, aka 'The Chub master'! I always watch your new videos soon after they are released. The algorithm knows to tell me about it immediately 😂 One qu if I may: You always seem to take maggots with you but I never see you using them when fishing for Chub. Why bother taking such an expensive and temporary bait if you don't use it?
@markerd5378 Жыл бұрын
Haha, cheers its nice when youtube actually works and doesn't forget to send followers notifications about new uploads. I tend to use maggots on my chub trips either in cocktail baits such as worm and maggot together or as a light feed bait to draw chub into a competitive mood. They keep for months too. I do not really consider 2 pints of maggot expensive, but only because I've got a habit of making them last ages due to me being a tight sod lol😂. To me expensive would be 5 or 6 pints a trip and feeding heavily, either trotting or via a maggot feeder, like some of the match anglers tend to do. Main reason for not over using them as a bait on quite a few areas is minnow attention as well. I always take them and they always get used but for the most part as a confidence gaining feed.
