Just a word on cleaning a cast iron skillet. You can wash them by hand but dry well and grease with olive oil or cooking oil. They will rust if you don't. But you definitely should hand clean them well. Don't just wipe them. I have had mine for years and this is how I take care of mine and I learned this from my grandmother.
@mrscurtis08012 жыл бұрын
I use really hot water to rinse, do not touch it with soap, just salt and chain mail sponge, dry with towel then put on stove on low for few minutes to make sure is dry all the way so doesn't rust

That's defeating part of the purpose of cast iron. Washing with soap removes the seasoning that's built up on it.

I love using cast iron skillets!! Such a nice way to add iron into your diet. I usually wash mine with soap and and a scrubby because I’m lazy but when I’m not feeling lazy I’ll scrub it with salt, oil, and a paper towel. I’m not sure if that is totally right, I learned that from my grandmother. It does work well tho! 🤷🏻♀️

I have been using cast-iron for many years and all I do is wash them by hand using dish soap and then rinse and dry and put a light coating of oil in it. Once they are seasoned correctly they are virtually non-stick.

One thing I found that really helps with cast iron is when I’m done cooking I immediately take a spatula and scrape the grease out into my garbage. Also I know there are metal mesh cast iron “cloths” you can buy on Amazon for scrubbing that work well! Love your videos always and wish you didn’t get heck for being a maximalist. And plus it adds Iron into your food as you cook in it so that's an added benefit

Hi Michelle- I love my cast iron skillets, I was raised using them. I was mine then dry & oil immediately- just like the other comments suggest. Before Christmas, I had my kids declutter with me. If they wanted Santa to bring more toys then we needed to make room. We would often donate them..I would also watch and see what they are actually playing with or just pulling out to find/ get to other things - thst stuff went by-by as well.. Great job! Have a wonderful weekend Suga

I love our cast iron. You can use hot water and course salt to clean for stuck on stuff. I usually just use hot water and a scrub brush, dry off and oil it back up. That is the easiest way I have found. But if he is particular about how the pan keeps its seasoning not sure if this way of cleaning it affects that.

Just a note on the Disney trip thing. I took my kids when they were 7,7, and 4. We had to go back this year, now that my youngest is 12 because he had no memory of it. My brother took his kids around ages 2 and 4. They don't remember either. So, do go if you want the experience for yourself and to see them having fun, I know I will never forget that first trip, but I'd wait if you are only planning to go once. My older kids do remember going at 7 if that helps. I feel like they were still young enough to truly love it and feel the magic but old enough to have those memories. ETA: My word for 2023 is, "start." I find that once I start something it becomes easy to continue. I have to remind myself it just start!

To clean a cast iron pan you're supposed to hand wash it not put in the dishwasher and then hand dry it then put olive oil on it or cooking oil on it and season it then put it in the oven for a little while. Although your not suppose to season it all the time.
@jamiebeasley222 жыл бұрын
I’m not a fan of cast iron either. I’m not the best cook as it is but they stress me out and then the clean up is a hassle so I don’t use it.
@mschenandlerbong85392 жыл бұрын
I would get the kids real presents. Experiences are great... when you get to experience them months later. And by then it has no connection to Christmas, and let's be honest, you would be doing it anyway. I like the idea of prepping for Christmas by having the kids pick out old toys they no longer want to donate. Explain to them other kids won't get presents, they don't have money for it. Make them the hero of providing gifts by donation. Presents aren't bad, it's just when we don't clean out beforehand a windfall.
@teresabeamon9650 Жыл бұрын
I don't like them myself. They're heavy. You can hand wash it. Then dry it & spray it with cooking spray. Then wipe out the cooking spray with a paper towel. They call it seasoning them. That helps them from rusty.

I had to laugh when you said you were secretly throwing away the little hair clips lying around. That was so me when my kids were little. My kids are grown now, but when they were little those little Barbie pieces use to drive me crazy and every time I had to pick them up I would throw them away. 😂

My word for 2023 is going to sound kind of selfish but I will explain. My word is reward. It's this for many reasons. 1. We have spent the last 3 years building a business, this year I'm speaking reward into existence. 2. My husband has almost always lived away from us with military training, deployments, duty stations etc and this is the first year he is with us full time because he is finally out of the army, so the waiting and missing him leads to this year's reward. 3. We have been on our infertility journey for 5 years, did ivf, have done 3 embryo transfers all 3 resulting in a pregnancy but not a baby in our arms but 3 angels instead. During ivf we ended up with 11 embryos to freeze and didn't want them to be discarded so we donated some to another military couple and their first baby from our embryos was born Christmas day. A beautiful blessing and we are so happy for them and him. So after everything we've been through in this journey this year in speaking reward into existence and that this upcoming embryo transfer gives us our baby granted the money for transfer is raised since we have already paid 30k. So after years of ups and downs and Roller-coaster ride after roller-coaster ride I am speaking reward into our lives. The past years have been us working up to this year. ❤️
@MichelleOMalley7112 жыл бұрын
Kylee that is not selfish at at! In fact you and your husband deserve nothing more than all the rewards and blessings that this transfer and this year will be your year! Paying so hard you! 🙏
