Nice, where do you guys launch? How long is the ride, I only have a 25HP motor.

We launched from the portage marina. It was quite the haul to get there. It was the other guys boat, so I don't know how strong of a motor he had

I might have to try cooking some up one of these days. I'm just leary about eating these because they were caught so close to the Steel Mills... Don't trust the possible pollution.

Great vid and good job but that’s the future of our fish you would think u would try not bopping em around and handling them so much knocking all them scales off
@JVDigital19793 жыл бұрын
Trying to keep your balance on a rocking boat, in freezing cold winds, and delicately handle fish is not an easy task. Besides, Coho are a resilient fish species-- the ones we caught and released will go on to live perfectly fine, until they die of natural causes, get eaten by a predator, or until someone else catches them. Would you prefer we killed the fish and stuck them in a frying pan instead?
@mikeabercrombie3093 жыл бұрын
@@JVDigital1979 been there many times most people that coho fish for fun never leave the water just saying knocking em all about basically tossing em in the boat letting them roll all about isn’t cool also the amount of scales removed plays a huge part in how health that fish will live but props on the catches just think u should be a bit more careful

Great Video! Brings back memories of fishing off the US Steel breakwall with my buddies. That place is loaded with Cohos that time of the year and are non-stop when they are in the warm water discharge at that location. We used to drag KO wobblers through there and unfortunately accidently snag a 40 lb carp every so often...they are like hauling in a refrigerator from the bottom. Have fun and Tight Lines always.
@JVDigital19793 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yeah there were many coho to be caught out there. We went to the warm water discharge later that day and saw some carp breaking water. It was good times!

Why jet the fish if you're not going to keep it? All you're doing is causing unnecessary potential harm to the fish. Swing it in, unhook and throw back.. no offense, just saying
@JVDigital19794 жыл бұрын
For the sport of fishing. I don't keep any of the fish I catch, like many fishermen. Fish are a tough species, they'll be fine and go on to live until they die naturally, or get caught by someone else.

Wondering why you’re not keeping any? Some of those fish are being damaged (permanently) by being handled and dropped in the boat and in the net. Looks fun to catch them but at what cost? Injuring 100 fish a week just to be (in your own mind) KZbin stars?
@JVDigital19794 жыл бұрын
Not keeping them because I'm not eating them. I've fished for 35 years, and I've never seen a fish become debilitated by an injury caused from being handled or even dropped-- fish are resilient. The fish I released will go on to survive just fine. I caught 4 fish that week, significantly less than the 100 fish you're assuming are being "injured." I catch and release every fish, and I do my best to handle them with care. Now that I know how strong and feisty coho can be, I'll be able to handle them better in the future. I'd be fishing regardless of whether or not I was sharing my fishing adventures on KZbin, so don't assume I'm catching fish simply for KZbin.
@MizzouFanMikeGaming4 жыл бұрын
@@JVDigital1979 totally agree Jake. I'm a country boy and been fishing for over 40 years. Catch and release didn't hurt the fish . They don't have a clue
@mikebednarek2454 жыл бұрын
Those fish in your video, the way you are handling them. Are lucky to survive. By reading your response. You are completely ignorant to the species of fish. Salmon are very delicate, especially coho. There is a reason the salmon tournaments have certain rules in place to protect the fishery. (Example: if the fish arent going to be kept for weigh-in, then the fish is not allowed to touch the net or the boat or a person. They must be shook off at the back of the boat for release.) So next time, you should KNOW THE DRILL.

@matbob72493 жыл бұрын
These fish are being damaged, but because of no thermo shock and cold temperatures they have better chance of survival, some of them will make it. It’s impossible to care for coho as it’s literally a helicopter. Most of them loose the slime and scales will develop a fungus and perish according to the studies . Later in a year with temps 60+ mortality rate is 99% for salmonoids, i say keep a limit and donate to some family in need of food
