After a few days mooring our narrowboat at Aqueduct Marina charging our batteries and travelling down to the artisan market at Brinklow, we are back on board. Its going to be a long day with 10 miles, 11 locks and 2 swing bridges, but after managing one lock on my own, Anthony returns to join me for the rest of the cruise along this beautiful stretch of the Llangollen Canal our home for Winter.

That fella with his angle grinder, really knew his job. What a difference a few thou's off the edge of the prop makes. Now you can only hear the electric motor itself, that is bearable and most likely essential. Mud glorious mud, the towpaths are a delight to behold, just hose poor Anthony down when he returns from biking the paths!! Wellies are the order for the day now.

It really was. So tiring. The tow path was probably the worst I have tackled. It is a bind having to go back for the van but unfortunately necessary. Aww, the light switch on will be fab. When is that? Hope you have a lovely week ❤️

It is amazing now. We should have had that done ages ago. The Llangollen definitely has decent water levels. That mud was horrific, legs were killing for ages 😂. Have really been trying at the gym. Hope you have a great weekend ❤️

Anthony - I see there are quite a few national cycle network roads around there. You should consider using those to get from a to b rather than that horrendous towpath. Might be more direct too. 😊

I’m very pleased for you both that your prop is now sorted. That was a very sharp left turn Anthony, well done navigating around it. Did you have to use your bow thruster? That’s a good idea to use the air fryer for cheese on toast. Hello to Colin! I like your animated maps, they look really great. Is that a separate piece of software? Paul you did an excellent job navigating the By Washers. Anthony, I don’t know how you managed to cycle in all that mud. You’re a hero for doing that. Do you feel safe cycling in the mud? Well done Paul struggling against the change in the weather whilst mooring up the boat. That cracked bridge looked a bit suspect? I agree with Paul about the smell of burning logs. Hey Spoolbox. The singing prop resolution is a game changer. It used to make my toes curl. 😂 That turn was sharp but no bow thruster 😊. Uses less power to melt the cheese in the air fryer 👍. Paul uses the editing software for the maps too. Glad you like them. Paul did well with the by washes. Really fierce. That tow path was horrific. My legs were killing for days. I've had a bloody awful couple o' days and here I am @ 11:20 PM on my 4th glass of wine and I put you pair on. I have a laptop in a docking station that has a 32" monitor attached and a studio monitor sound system. I sit back in a recliner and watch the screen that is 2 ft. away from me. The minute I get you on I'm nicely relaxed and off to another world. Paul has a soothing voice and is a brilliant narrator. I must say though, the minute them crumpets with cheese on came on I was about to eat my wireless keyboard! Believe it or not, Costco in Pennsylvania used to sell (for about 3 months) Warburtons crumpets. Oh my, was I in heaven. Anyway Anthony, I'm just babblin' on and admittedly it's the veno. Have a great weekend guys, and just know I love these videos and look forward to them every week. One last thing, tell Paul, he didn't learn his brilliant artwork skills from Mrs Andrews or Mrs Woodward. His talent is way ahead of them! Mrs Woodward was a pot smokin' hippy. 🙂 Sorry Mrs W. @@NarrowboatLifeUnlocked Yeah, American bacon is just belly fat shite! Although, there's a guy from the UK I watch all the time that is a great butcher and cook. His channel is under his name Scott Rea. He does outstanding videos. He's done stuff on curing traditional and old cuts of bacon. I have local farms around me because I live in what's known as the Lebanon Valley which is close to Hershey. Loads of Amish farms etc. I'm gonna try to get these cuts of meat then have a bash at it. I think that episode was "Traditional Collar Bacon" Scott Rea did. Check it out. He cooks it outdoors Si and Dave (Hairy Bikers) style. Bacon butties!!!! Mmmmmmmmmm!

Nice to have the boat jobs sorted and winter ready. You both had exercise, Paul doing the locks solo and Anthony a mega work out cycling through the tow path mud. Fishermen, there was a national comp on last time on the cut, 260 all in a line, miles of going slow !!! The bywash was fierce in October when we were in the area, and that electric lift bridge was the first Ive ever done, in over 7 years, but certainly much easier than the manula ones, now they are a work out. Hey guys. I chuckled when Paul said something about not saying anything to the fisherman at the lock landing because he is passive aggressive. I have always avoided conflict myself. Don't get me wrong I have my limits and will stand up for myself, but I have missed out on so many things in life and let people walk over me because I dislike conflict and many of those times I now regret. Anyway, I'm glad you have ironed out most of the issues you have had with your boat and I'm sorry things have not worked out with the builder. But, from what little I know of you both and how you handle the challenges life throws at you, I have no doubt you both will come through it all smelling and looking like a rose... and so will your next boat...lol. Thank you Roger. Paul definitely tries to avoid conflict. He internally mutters. We are pleased we have sorted the boat. It has come to a point though where we are no longer in love with it. We have tried to be diplomatic throughout the whole thing but we can no longer morally continue to be associated. It is so sad. I do hope for a better future. Have a great week ❤️

Something tells me that you, Anthony, don't let people get away with it as bad as someone like me, and I assume Paul, does. I'd bet you stand up for yourself pretty well. My wife, a red head btw, is the same way. She lets me know that I'm too easy going sometimes. But, we tend to balance each other out.

Glad the prop is sorted👍. You’ve captured the logistics of having to use the van perfectly, and it can’t be easy for both of you; It must take some forward planning to be able to continually cruise. Beautiful videography of the countryside even though the flooding must be a real pain to navigate the towpath. I also had the urge to light my Logburner when you pointed out the boat with smoke coming out of the chimney. I also find the smell of a Logburner evocative- it also forces me to crack open a bottle of red😁. Take care both👍

Hey Chris. The prop fix is a game changer. The noise drove me to distraction. It does take a little planning with the van, but something we are definitely getting the hang of. That was probably the worse cycling journey I have done since being on the boat. I do love a real fire. I don’t think you need an excuse to open a bottle of red 😉. Hope you have a great weekend ♥️

I just realised you must record your weekly vlogs some weeks in advance of posting them as i was really confused watching your friends from one more day aboard as Pete was always in shorts and t-shirts and the trees were in full bloom which threw me with it being in the middle of November . We are hoping to rectify it in the new year. Made up the prop is sorted. So much more pleasant to cruise. The canals do flood. Northwich has flooded a few times due to the rise in the River Weaver. People volunteered to help but I live south of everyone by several miles and it is an imposition. There were volunteers, but... 😟 The situation with Phil's boat is horrific. I hope he can find good counsel that can help him. It's so nice to see everyone together to support him. Perhaps he should look into local activist press or his MP for help. Some of those tow paths aren’t even fit for walking on let alone riding a bike on, imagine going down on some of that ground. We stayed in a haunted hotel in Nantwich, I’ve got a feeling I told you that before, didn’t effect us but my son in law, who’s a sensitive, it just totally freaked him out. Pretty trip Paul, CRT Volunteers on in so many places until you had that lock by yourself, your luck is as good as mine. OK I know this vlog was before you got the flu but I so very much hope by the time you’re reading this you’re both feeling much better and Anthony’s asthma is under control. Thinking of you both. The Church Hill lock looked old but beautiful. Nice to have volunteers helping with the locks. You two are so cute together. It’s good that your prop is fixed up and so quiet. That was a long cruise day. Looking forward to seeing what your new boat looks like and what you’re going to name it. The little dog did look like Dexter. I’m sure you’re missing him a lot. Biking on that muddy toe path must have been horrendous. Some parts of the country get so much rain and other parts don’t. Should there be more hard surfaces along the tow path or would that affect the natural amenity of the area? CRT and their volunteers are limitted in what they can do to maintain the canals,paths and other infrastructure. Would boaters be prepared to pay higher licence fees for more maintenance? Maybe they could dump truckloads of gravel at the most degraded areas combined with plantings of trees and shrubs to sop up the moisture.

Hey Terence. The surface from Wigan to Parbold was paid from another source and is brilliant. If there was more of this, it would be great. A few weeks later I realised I had ripped a muscle in my leg, can only attribute this to that cycle ride. I guess boater’s licenses have just been increased. It is a shame other people who enjoy the tow path don’t contribute. Hope you have a great weekend ❤️

I saw on entering the flight of locks a sign saying ‘please lift your fenders’. I would have thought I to a narrow lock like that would be the time you would need them. How come the requirement to lift them please?

Many single locks have walls that are slightly bowing. Fenders have been know to wedge boats in the lock and causing them to possibly sink. We never use fenders in the locks Graham. Have a brilliant week ❤️
