im finding out the same thing with the horse hay. Orchard grass and timothy made a really nice first cut. Second and third were non existent when we got hot and dry. Alfalfa makes better bales also

How do you get that wagon tongue right there at the hitch -- you make that hookup look so easy! Cover crops: my testing this summer showed top root work from Buckwheat and Lentils (and the deer stayed away from the lentils) so I'm expanding their use (tested green lentils but have a bag of black lentils for next spring as they are supposed to put a lot more nitrogen in the ground than the green ones). These two crops might provide grain profit on a larger scale if the seeds are harvested (I'm putting the seed back to work toward soil improvement with the near term goal of supporting heirloom corn without fertilizer+). The buckwheat really brought in the beneficial insects -- more ladybugs than I remember back in the old days and spiders the size of small cats out there eating a lot of pests! Keep updating us all on how your experiments and changes are working or not.

Thanks for covers update! Been backing up to wagons for 40 years now, just practice, many times I don't need the adjustment of the tongue, once in a while you have to get in and out of the tractor three times. LOL

Good afternoon Jon. Have you ever looked at herbal lays in with grass. Can be used for grazing and haylage. Some herbs are deeper rooted therefore are less prone to drought. 👍

Never heard of it. Do you have an example

Really enjoy your content Jon including all your JD expertise!! I’m north of you in western Manitoba. We run 250 cows and been bale grazing for 15 years now. When placing bales I always think, what piece of ground needs the most improvement next. It’s unbelievable what that bale, manure compost does for the ground!! Thanks again for sharing!!

I like that logic at 0:48 ! Lost count of the arguments I had with my Dad and Grandfather over similar issues that had a simple solution but the answer was " We never did it that way before " LOL and keep up the great work Jon ! 👍

I am not sold on heavy grass mixes. Legumes (mainly alfalfa) might be a little difficult to establish but really pulls its weight year in year out.

Yes. The grass just does not come back as fast and it can't handle the dry weather

The might Massey was replaced by JD. It's funny you can hear all the shifting compared to when your off loading with the Massey.
@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms37542 жыл бұрын
Yeah the Massey is stuck in West Rock on customers farms for corn Harvest. Just isn't right having to shift and clutch...

4430 loader tractor? Where's the Mighty Massey?
@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms37542 жыл бұрын
Grain cart Duty for customers Corn Harvest. Just isn't right to move hay afternoon use a clutch and shifting gears. The struggle is real. 4430 is actually not a bad loader tractor, we got started on overhauling its engine in the shop, the one that's in there now is my spare, neat to see in a couple months have a brand new 4430 come out of the shop
