Just FYI most places that sell vehicle batteries will test them for you for Free. Also, most will change the battery for you if your vehicle is in their lot. So next time you have battery issues, if the car is still running or if you can get a charge/jump drive it to the store where you will purchase the new battery and ask the battery department to change (remove and replace) the battery for you. It might be a small fee for then to do it, but it's worth it. BTW someone else commented to remember to take the old battery back to where you bought the new one for and exchange of the CORE Fee. if they charged you a core fee when you bough the new one then when you take the old battery back they will refund you that fee. They do here in the U.S.

Get some tire repair spray at Canadian Tire for about $12 Do this at an air station bc you will need to deflate the tire then spray the tire repair spray into the tire (use the whole can and make sure the leak is on the ground when filling) and then take it for a spin on the freeway to spin the tire repair goo within the tire to repair the leaking hole

You can’t electrocute yourself with a 12v battery. You could grab both terminals with your bare hands and literally nothing would happen. What you have to watch out for is shorting the battery by touching anything metal on the vehicle while tightening or loosening the positive terminal. This is why you should always remove the negative first and install the negative last.

You don't want to tap too hard on those battery posts, it CAN actually cause an explosion, it's better to loosen the terminals and twist them on than to force them on with tapping. Great real life video too and hats off to you for doing this yourself. Walmart will change it for you if you'd rather in the future, at least they do here in the states!

OMG, THIS! A buddy of mine was tapping a battery post down in his car and that's EXACTLY what happened. Fortunately, he was uninjured, but a plastic piece of the battery flew across the street! :O

@@Chordonblue I will be so glad when lead acid batteries are obsolete, they really are dangerous and inefficient! Glad he was not hurt, that acid can spray your body and it starts burning, it can cause eye damage, etc, nasty stuff!!!

@@myvanlife1 They may be inefficient, but they have just enough longevity in harsh weather - at a reasonable price, that they just work. I own an EV, and I wouldn't want to be tapping on THOSE batteries, believe me! 😋

And what a storm it was. I'm in White Rock and it took my DIL 7 hours to get home from Kitsilano. Took my son over 5 hours after getting off shiftat midnight. It was like pure ice falling from the sky.

I am surprised you haven't needed and acquired a basic tool set all this time as a Vanlifer. I'd figure after five years, biting the bullet and replacing the battery is recommended especially as a Vanlifer to avoid the potential hassle and headaches.

The battery will always make a spark as you decrease the air gap between the circuit wire and the terminal and make the final connection. My understanding is that it's electricity jumping the air gap and superheating some air from gas to plasma, which throws off light. For any given DC voltage there's a given air gap that it can "jump" or create a circuit across. For 12v DC that air gap is tiny. Fun stuff

A woman alone in trouble and the guy wants to know how long she’ll need to use his wrench. What a creep. He should GIVE her the wrench. He should stay there with her until she has it fixed and is safe. He should call every male friend he knows to come there and help and fix it while she rests in the van. She just told him she’d been waling back and forth from Canadian Tire for 2 days. Nobody ever tell me again how extra “ nice” Canadians are. (I’m a Canadian) with behavior like that. Shameful!! Myself I would be so tired & discouraged I may’ve pulled in a church parking lot and asked for help but somehow I feel a church wouldn’t’ve given her any more help than this Prince Charming with the spotless white coat. Unbelievable.
