Winter is coming: We travel to the Himalayan hills to visit stunning Shimla and see snow in Manali

Travelling by bus from Rishikesh to Shimla, we spend a few days exploring this beautiful former hill station. We visit Scandal Point, the university and a couple of microbreweries, and also hike up Jakhu Hill to see the statue of Lord Hanuman and the Jakhu Temple. Then it's further into Himachal Pradesh as we get a bus to Manali, where we arrive safely after negotiating some fairly scary twisting mountain roads. The weather in Manali isn't great to us, but we still manage to walk in a beautiful pine forest, visit the Hidimba Devi temple and experience the laid back hospitality of several local cafes. Then it's a trek through the mud to our bus to Delhi - but we worry about making it there on those wet and slippery perilous mountain roads.
