Matt, thank you for all you are doing. Being raised in Suffolk County, on Long Island , my mom first started taking us to Smith Point beach right after the bridge opened in 1959. We spent almost every summer day there growing up and, in 1975, I proposed to my bride there in April of that year…we’ll be married fifty years in August. I worked on fire island at Davis Park for a couple of years. The pleasure we get from your videos is immense. We’ve covered every step with you , and every pull of the oar. Your visits to the waterways and islands around NYC are also a great source of enjoyment. Having left the area many years ago now, we get to live and revisit with every new video you post. Thanks for the great work you are doing, it is greatly appreciated!

Hi again Matt! First I'll begin by saying to you and all the good people on here to have a Happy and healthy New Year🎉 Stay safe! Is the most important, Anyways looks like a very uninhabitable island from what I seen unless you really didn't get to explore it completely and yes the icy patches on the water would have had me think second thoughts of the kayaking on it but Matt you're very experienced and know what you're doing,looking forward as always to your next adventure but guess it's gonna freeze up more as normal conditions, you'll probably go hiking or something in nature,so thanks again Matt for taking us along take care see you soon!❤🙏🧿🙋⛄❄️🚣🐻

@kemalmustafa1956 Thank you so much for this amazing comment. I really appreciate you watching and commenting. With the changing weather, freeze / thaw, etc. I have to be creative and come up with new ideas and interesting places to explore. I make adjustments according to the weather. So much nostalgia for me here. In the 70’s, I spent 3 3ummers clamming in Bellport Bay. I floated a Wire bushel basket and with rubber totes on my feet treaded clams. Clams were so plentiful I could fill a basket within 30-45 min. There were so many boats on the bay you could almost jump from boat to boat. As a teacher I had summers off so I picked up a used skiff at one of the fishing stations added a 25 hp motor and I was in business. I spent my off days very often traveling with my wife and son to “ Bird Island” aka now as Boyle I. Those were some great summers. Here is an ice memory. One winter I walked across a frozen Bellport Bay all the way to Fire I. From the Bellport Yacht Club. There were iceboats racing all over the bay. Amazing stuff. A month ago I purchased an inflatable kayak at Sea Eagle kayaks in Port Jeff due to your inspiration. I haven’t kayaked in 5 yrs but looking forward to getting back on the water again. Btw, I think this would be a good island for camping with a paddle to Ho Hum each mixed in. Have a Happy New Year Matt. Life is Good!

It figures that I have to see this video after seeing the story on the news about that guy whose jet ski failed out on the Poospatuck River and the woman who used her paddleboard to rescue him. Thank God she was there, she saved his life. Do you have any backup like an inflatable inner tube or something similar in the event of damage to your kayak? Asking for a friend🙂
@TwoFeetOutdoors
@TwoFeetOutdoors 18 күн бұрын
Besides wearing my personal floatation device, I have "float bags", inflated bags in the front and rear voids of the kayak for added safety. I saw that on the news, too. I doubt the jet skier was wearing a dry suit. That's another precaution I take. I try to cover all angles to ensure my safety. I have a "paddle float" too. It's a float you use on your paddle to help you get back in the kayak if you ever need it in an emergency.

Enjoyed watching the video. I’d love to live on the water. We have some beautiful creeks and rivers here in Southeastern Kentucky . There’s a small creek that runs through our fields and the Cumberland River too but they all flood often. The river here as my son has nicknamed it looks like a “Big Ditch”, it does look like a river sized ditch! 😔 We live about an hour away from the lake so I’m not around water like I’d like to be. I think being out in nature just restores the soul. I live in a very rural area back up in the mountains. I love the silence of winter. I like to go out at night and there’s just silence. Most nights there’s not an animal, human or vehicle making a sound. Occasionally I can hear a cow in the field or a dog barking way off in a distance, sometimes I can hear the coyotes howling but mostly it’s just complete silence. It so peaceful.

Hi Matt this is Mark from Texas the DFW Metroplex. Well I learned again to swim and keep myself from drowning. At this point it is 1/2/25. Had interesting day at work. I have been laid up with hip pain s/t low back pain and chronic back injuries from 40 years of being a nurse! At my age and as nurse practitioner I don’t have to do all that I was called on to do in past! I have three Eddieline kayaks one one Oru-Kayak coast xt. The Oru is much easier to tote around and store in my Subie! I do have the requisite kayak roof carriers! I hope to make it into the water this spring! This vid is great! I used to go to City Island with my grandma to have seafood at the last stop! She used to order pitchers of beer along with clams and soft shell crab. I used to share the clams and some soda! I was to young for the beer! Maybe she would share a small cup of beer with me! Always great to see your programs. I follow them closely. If I am not being too nosy, what do you do for a living. I see you in some computer based job! I admire your adventure and drive to get out doors! I am going to physical therapy and I have struck up a friendship with the therapist. He uses kinetic tape, cupping, and dry needle. I am always interested in different therapeutic modalities so I got some how to books along with scheduling for dry needle course. The cupping I can learn on KZbin. tube.

Next week, I'm gonna pull down a feathercraft k-light folding kayak that has either been in my attic or in storage for over 40 years. Haven't opened it. Last use, I scraped the bottom under the George washington bridge as the water was ebbing out. Take a guess. What do you think the shape of the skin will be in? Decrepit like some NYC waterways or miraculously restorable. We'll see. I probably should do a video on it even though Feathercraft kayak is defunct!
