Winter kayaking & snorkeling in Kailua Beach, Popoia (Flat Island) & Lanikai Beach, Oahu, Hawaii

This video will show you kayaking and snorkeling during the winter season in the Kailua Beach, Popoia (Flat Island) and Lanikai Beach area. In the winter high wind and waves are a challenge for kayaking, so make sure you check the surf condition before you go especially if you want to go to Mokulua Islands (the day we were there was too rough so this video didn’t show Mokulua Islands ). Lanikai Beach area does not have high waves and is pretty good for snorkeling to see the Green Turtles and fish. If you don’t like the winter or are not comfortable in ocean conditions, you can paddle a kayak up the canal to Enchanted Lake. The water in the canal is quite calm, very peaceful. The best part about winter is that there are many fewer people there.
In the video we discuss the important things to be aware of when preparing your kayaking. Since we did rent from a rental shop, there were fewer things we had to worry about. If you borrow the boat from someone, or just in general you want to consider additional issues:
1. Always wear a life jacket. This is required by law, the rental company would have provided it.
2. Respect marine life, stay at least 10 feet away from Green Turtles.
3. Don't go out alone, know the capsize drill, dress appropriately while considering the water temperature, stay hydrated and be safe.
