Montana's best! Kelly, I've been fishing your "drop-shot" setup with a gummy worm or rubberleg on the bottom, sinkers hung about 8" off, and a zebra midge tied off the blood knot - Been pretty productive on the Gallatin. Appreciate ya!

Kevin Winegardner Kelly was using a drop shot system in this video he ties almost all his flies without bead heads because he uses the drop shot system and he let's the split shot do the work for him but if your more traditional just put the split shot on the line

Are you fishing a stocked river or wild also what line brand would you recommend i live in Oklahoma and fish the lower Illinois alot there line size isn't a problem but my family and i like to go to roaring river in mossuri and all the fish there seem to see my line and i just can't catch to many fish im using umpqua 2.5 pound and it breaks like all hell im using a five weight is that the problem or am I setting the hook to hard or is that just not a good brand also should i be using floro im 14 years old so im not the wisest

2.5 pound line seems realllllyyy light, i almost never fish smaller than 5x which is like 4.5 lb strength. Also a 5 weight rod is heavy for that super small 2.5 lb tippet, you could break them off on a hookset very easily. As Kelly said, he uses a 4 weight moderate action rod, so the forgiving tip safeguards your tippet. I would use 5x and 4x for nymphing, mayybeee 6x if the fish are super picky, but be ready to play the fish very gently and carefully. umpqua is a great brand though.

I use the rubber spikes that stretch over my neopreme bootfoots. they have carbide studs that grip very well, and are easy to remove.

Winter wading.....I have yet found equipment to wade safely and still have warm feet. Neoprene paddle shoes don't have traction but are warm, wading boots have no insulation but have traction. Can you recommend a pair of wading boots that are warm? Thanks, great instructive videos.

Rankin , There is not such thing as a warm wader boot. the water is inside the boot and so is the water pressure putting pressure on the neoprene and then your foot gets cold. The only way to stay warm is a good sturdy boot foot wader. You have to make sure the boot is sturdy enough that none of it collapses on your foot, real light weight ones will do that. then you just have to stud them for traction. thanks, Kelly

Try a drysuit. I use an emporor level 6 for whitewater kayaking year round. They are much safer than a set of waiders. Just can't hook yourself...

I dragged a float tube over the snow to one of Oregon's most pressured lakes several years ago in a quest to prove something. I caught trout on a huge saltwater size streamer on 1x "tippet" just to show that unpressured trout are not shy at all.
