We are in the midst of Winter and getting out of bed is becoming a real struggle. However, this morning I jumped out of bed to hit up one of my favourite local fishing spots. Hays Inlet is a nice productive spot known to hold some good flathead. Fingers crossed the flaties are on the chew this beautiful winter morning.

Good evening ImJasonFish. I have been enjoying your videos. It is great to see you catch a fish. You used to say "fish on" which I thought was your catch phrase however I have not heard it in a while. Keep up the good fishing. Cheers

Good evening tReynos1, thank you for leaving a comment and productive feedback. I am sorry for leaving you on the hook. I don't know how to explain it, but its the heat of the moment when you hook up, your reel is screaming, rod is bending and fish is headed straight to Moreton Island - I forget and stumble on my words. Next time I will try my best! Stay Tuned!! 😊

I kayak fish Lake Macquarie. The cold does not deter me but strong southerly winds do. Cold fingers make rerigging more difficult than usual. My wife & I excelled yesterday & caught 1 small Bream each - 20cm tiddlers in Cockle Creek. She is new to kayak fishing & has capsized twice so shallow sheltered water has been her training ground. She caught a 30cm plus Tailor on 30th May but it got off the hook. She didn't have a net at the time. We have remedied that. I was amazed she took her Bream off the hook herself! We will go back to Booragul next time. Good to see you catching quality fish. I haven't caught a flathead since 24th April!! Thanks for sharing.

Hey mate, great to hear from you and super happy the fish are cooperating! 😆 It sounds like your wife is the luckier fisher out of you both. But don't worry, my mum is just that - she out fishes me with her super luck (its ridiculous) 😂😭 Thanks for watching and leaving a comment - tight lines! 👍

Keep these land based videos coming, they’re gold and the locations! Just a couple of questions. I like to get up early and target mainly Bream in the pre-dawn light. What are your preferred tides for targeting 1.Bream and 2.Flathead love catching a Flounder too if they’re around. Hope yr well Jason.
@ImJasonFish
@ImJasonFish 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Justin, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I don't have a preferred tide, but I choose my fishing spots to utilise the tides to the best. A high high tide (2.2m+) is good for spots like the groynes of Brighton. But don't bother when the high tide is below 2m (donuts from experience haha). A low tide condenses the fish into a smaller area to fish (if that makes sense). Make sure you check out my other videos for locations, tips and tricks. Enjoy! 😊

Jason where would you launch a kayak from, if the tides up, I'd imigane from where you were, but if it's out, would I have to pull it across the flats, which would be OK on the wheels, I've got, thanks for any info mate, cheers John

Hey again John, I would recommend launching around Pelican Park on the beach front in Contarf. There's a few rocky reefs which look promising. Couldn't tell you as I don't have a boat/kayak haha. Hope this helps 😊

Hi Jason, love your Vids, could you you fish that area in a kayak, is it relatively safe, looks it, I take a mate with me who has a slight disability, he usually fishes land based, so that spot looks safe for both of us, I'd be interested in your thoughts, as we are based in Toowoomba, we woudnt clean all the fish out lol.. Cheers mate

Hey John, yes you can fish the area in a kayak, even around the highway pylons will produce. But the current can be pretty strong. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment 😊

Hey mate, thanks for watching and leaving a comment! You have to be mobile and cover as much ground when flicking lures of the shore. I use a Alvey wading bag to store items and fish I have caught. I also find having a rod spike is very handy to put your fishing rod in when you need two hands to take fish off the hook or tying lures. This is because you don't want to put your fishing rod in the mud and sand! Hope this helps 👍

Hi Jason great video mate, often fish that location. In fact heading out there on Thursday. How far up the channel do you go? Or do you fish closer to the bridge end?
@ImJasonFish
@ImJasonFish 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Kev, I usually go straight in the middle which is the deepest section. However, sometimes the flatties are lying on the mud flats to the right or more to the mouth on the left. You just got to move between casts and cover as much ground as possible. Hope this helps! Good luck for Thursday, hope the weather turns mint - let me know how you go! Hey Jason do you walk out form Haysmouth Parade? Last weekend I went on the low tide to the North Pine River trying to get to the channel. I walked out from Brighton Park, but even on the low tide and in knee deep water I was still a good 200m+ away from the channel. How close to you get to the channel at Hays Inlet?

Hi Jason. 1 question where do ya store ya flathead? Noticed everyone wears backpacks. Do ya put them in a plastic bag after killing them or what? Curious to know... Cheers mate... Was just there fishing this afternoon and almost got one...
@ImJasonFish
@ImJasonFish 3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, I use a wading bag (an old Alvey one to be specific - Aussie made) and chuck the fish in a plastic bag prior. Some people are picky about chucking fish straight into an cool esky - But two hours outside in the wading bag is alright (especially Winter). You can bring an esky but sometimes the tide hasn't fully gone out and it just floats away, plus its a hassle having to pick it up while relocating or moving along the bank to cast. I also recommend bringing a fishing rod spike/holder to put your rod in when re-rigging or tending to fish. Putting your spinning reel on the sand/mud is a big no no - as the sand/mud and salt will get into your fishing reel and stuff it up. Hope this helps - let me know if you have anymore questions, happy to answer. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment 😊

@@ImJasonFish mate thank you for the rod holder tip when re rigging. Didn't think of that And in general thank you for the explanation of the bag. I fish with my house mate so she moves the bucket and tackle box. We will switch to a good old backpack soon now it makes sense. :) be nice to meet ya out there one day

@@ImJasonFish forgot to mention I been using a soft plastic and I thought it was a dud but I did hook up a nice 30cm + yesterday but it got off 2ft away from me.. Was a sad moment. Cheers again. We are buying a small tinnie soon after tax time and gonna drift those low tides. Cannot wait.
