A couple years ago my husband had Covid for 12 weeks, 11 months later, he broke his ankle, three weeks after that, I broke my back. I was never so thankful as to have a prepared pantry as I was over these past two years. We had no income because he is Self-Employed and I was unemployed due to the pandemic. Even though I work in healthcare. I had no patients and our sleep centers closed. It’s not always about a catastrophe. It’s about illness injury job loss or a catastrophe. Could be weather related. Thank you for sharing this. I learned a few more things and now I will add it to my list as well.❤

You gotta be so thankful for prepping, when I was sick for 15 days I didn't have to go outside, which helped as walking when sick feels so sluggish.

@@neecywatson8250 yes it was a horrible time! We are good now. He only has some memory issues from the low oxygenation and some scar tissue on the base of his lungs. I’m fully recovered and gardening. Thanks for commenting. 😀

I would love to do a stock up shopping trip, but my monthly budget allows about $50 or less. I started going to the food bank drops last month. They are 95% produce right now. I've bèn very grateful to be able to can most of the items I have gotten. Cabbage and made Sauerkraut, carrots, white and sweet potatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, and sweet peppers. It's been a huge blessing to be able to can these things for winter.

I bought some Idahoan instant potatoes at Dollar Tree, that were slightly over the expiration date which was fine…I thought. They didn’t taste fresh at all! Has anyone else had this happen? I was really shocked!

This Lady is the first prepper I have seen on YT that has her act together. She talks down to earth and sensible as to what to stock instead of "Oh hurry run out and buy all this junk you will never eat because it may not be there tomorrow".

My local Walmart had regular mouth Kerr canning lids for .50 a box. Yes, fifty cents a box! I bought 2 flats of 24. I just got done canning all of my diced tomatoes and tomato sauce for the season and had used a lot of lids. It was a true blessing to be able to restock in one fell swoop!

Be careful! I bought some of those on clearance at my Walmart too and they didn’t seal well. Looking on the side of the box let me know that they were from 2020. I actually returned mine😞

@@kimpossible9211 that date shouldn't matter. However some people have been having issues with Kerr/Ball lids, others have not. It may be more of a "lot" thing than a date thing. Even if she has a couple of fails that is an awesome price!!!

Probably the number one season of the year to stock up. So many times you either can't or would rather not even have to get out of the house to shop. I guess that also depends on where you live...how much snow and ice you get and for how long, or just not liking icy cold weather period. For me in Va. and I will be 85 when winter hits our area, I just like to hibernate. LOL.

I did a pre-winter stock up last year, for the first time. It was so helpful to free up money during high utility bills in the winter. I did pancake mix/chocolate chips/syrup; pizza crust mix/sauce/pepperoni/mushrooms; instant potatoes/canned roast beef with gravy, etc. Can't wait to see what else you get!

If you got a wall with nothing on it, Put up shelves. If you got a chance against the wall, pull it out 7in, build some 6-inch shelves behind it you can put all canned foods behind your couch.

Clean out your closets. Get rid of anything you're not using on a monthly basis. If you haven't used it that month, you don't need it.

@@TakeTheRide I can't do that, my hubby is in a wheelchair and we have a very small house (he has just enough room to get through, even had to widen the doorways), as for shelves, I have EVERY closet filled with buckets, jars, and some clothes (and the walls in my bedroom) lol Under my bed is completely filled, and my laundry "closet" is filled with shelves, stuffed and I even had my brother build me another closet and that is filled lol When I say I am packed full, I am PACKED FULL! Not complaining at ALL, now I am looking to have one of my big sheds out back have some electricity in it and hooked to the house, then I will be in heaven :) I have been prepping for over 3 years and I went gung (is that even a real word) hoe on it too!

still have 12 pints of water bathed strawberries, 9-quarts of veggie soup and various itty bitty jars of some kind of sausage sitting on 2 kitchen counters. My twin sis will come to the house and literally plead: "Have anything to can?" . The above mentioned items are the result of her last pleading. I STILL haven't figured out where I'm gonna stash 'em😳

Just got back from Meijers and what a deal they had!!! Meijer boneless skinless chicken breast were 50 cents per pound! Marked down 75% and best by date is two days away. Wasn’t planning on buying any but ended 0:00 up getting 7 family packs! Roughly $3.00 each family pack. I guess I need to get out canner out! Happy prepping July!

There has been quite a few times I've bought meat close to the best before here...there was still 3-4 days left to go and when I opened the packages it was bad-stunk to high heaven.

Wow, what a great deal. I sometimes will buy the markdown meat and I have started vacuum sealing them, to go into the freezer. I use to just put them in freezer bags, but they don't do as well as the vacuum sealer. I just received another order of bags for my sealer. But, I never find any good meat at our Kroger on clearance, but sometimes will find it at another store.

I feel better after watching this. Just finishing up 5 bags of corn. 20 dozen in each. Some frozen, some canned and got all the silks drying for tea and jelly! Picking up 5 bushels of green beans tomorrow to can. My u pick farm also has half bushel baskets of ugly tomatoes, $12 each or 2 for $18. Lots of those coming home with me too. Not physically able to pick my own and I can use my EBT and they double the amount with a state program for seniors. Win win for me. My prepper friends and I will be busy canning all week. Another couple of our group took lists of what everyone needed or wanted and headed to Chef's Store. It's all spread out in my living room for everyone to pick up. Then garden harvesting soon for fresh and getting ready for fall planting.

@@debbiesavage7107 we're all seniors and live close. We garden and prep together to make it easier and affordable. I have the canning stuff and the biggest yard for gardening so we all help. 8 of us altogether. Widows and widowers and couples. Works out great.

Great job. I do this also. Not all in one month though. I stock up on everything I can, not just food. I started this about 35 years ago. I live in an area where we can get snowed in. So I do my best to have everything I need before the end of September. I stock up on a lot of boxed milk also

Thank you for this! I have been feeling like I was crazy. My grocery store had Goya beans clearanced to $.60 a bag, 2 pound boxes of spaghetti- $.50, 1 pound boxes of rotini $.69, and some of the Ham Beens mixes were $.77. I bought a lot! My kids thought I was crazy but with two teenage boys, we go through a lot of food!

When I shop for groceries, I fill the needs list. Once I’m done I walk the aisle and see what is on sale that we use. That’s what I will stock up on for that shopping trip. I’m wierd but it works for me.

I don't get out in the winter...fell a few times and don't heal so well anymore so yes I stock up. Also lived out in the middle of nowhere as a kid as we faced a blizzard...I learned well.

I canned 12 jars of ground beef and 12 jars of chicken breast. Helping our son in Alabama, they are having our 2nd grandbaby, and they love it. I absolutely love that they love it. ❤ oh, and 12 jars of applesauce.

Me too. I tried those Family Max packs of pork chops, remove the bone, also corned beef, and leftover steak portions. All in pints as a quart is too much for one.

Thank You for the video. I do a freezer clean out during the hot summer months. I use alternative cooking methods to grill meat. I limit oven use to only certain days and certain times to keep my house from getting too hot. I do not spend all of my grocery budget. I use the produce that I grew. I supplement that with vegetables from local Farmstands. Once a month I purchase a large family salad for $5 from a Papa Murphy's and have several days of salad lunches. I do everything that I can to save money for the fall sales in certain categories. I either purchase a whole hog or a quarter beef. I locate the store remodel sales and stock up on chicken as well. I use whatever is leftover to add to my food storage. During the past 2 years, I have been working with a prepping group and we have been getting food salvage. The food pantries get donations that no one wants so they have to either find someone to take them or throw them away. We take them and process them and divide them up amongst the group. The people that visit the food pantries do not cook from scratch and are picky as they prefer processed junk food. I process things like whole wheat flour or big pork loins or those fancy frozen fish nuggets.

I love to add fresh, frozen or canned fruit to cottage cheese. I add it to the cup I will be eating that day. Great variety helps out greatly.

It's been so HOT!, I rediscovered my love for cottage cheese and fruit as well. I canned peaches a couple years ago, go way to cycle thru, put in the fridge to chill. Yum and healthy ❤

I live in central California and a big change during winter is I bake bake bake and fill up the freezer so I don’t have to bake when it’s 100+ degrees outside. So summer stock up is the usual flour, sugar etc but also canned pumpkin, peaches, applesauce and spices.

My son just bought his first home and now my husband and I are empty nesters. I moved my 2 shelves from off the enclosed porch and moved them into his old room and then got a few extra shelves to make that my upstairs pantry and what is downstairs is my long term. When I moved some of the food upstairs, it was a good thing because I realized I was lower on some things than I thought. I started stocking up on those things this past weekend.

At this time of year I go to Aldi and buy beans, rice, canned veggies, canned potatoes (all soups stuff), I buy summer specialty jams and jellys (strawberry rhubarb is in season). I pick up sauerkraut, condiments, and fruits. Also it is a good time to get summer sausage and cured meats like pepperoni to use for pizza. I pick up extra coffee filters and juice is supper easy to find. All this gets stored for later use

I will have to pickup more coffee filters, as I just gave a pkg to my daughter because the store sent her the wrong size filters. I keep them on hand for just in case my Keurig goes down. I have a back up coffee pot and of course a camping coffee pot as well.

Great haul. I just helped my friend in her garden for three hours today. We got the whole thing weeded. I transplanted a bunch of cabbage, so I think that put us at about 25 plants. Harvested all the cabbage. We are going to make Pinballs recipe. We got fresh onions and rutabagas today too. Got fresh onions to put in our recipe with the cabbage. So a good day in the garden. Oh and I dug up a potato plant that came up from last years potatoes. So many volunteers this year. We planted about 100 potatoes this year. So we will be busy canning and storing them. I made a half recipe of Pinball's Golumpki to can. I added 3-4 shredded carrots to the batch. It's simple to make and really good! Enjoy!

Really surprised you came in under $300 with the way prices are. I stock up on the “15 bean soup” bean bags, and cans of fire roasted diced tomatoes, which I add to the bean soup. We eat a lot of sloppy joes (venison burger) so dry mixes and cans of tomato paste (looking for a scratch recipe for the seasonings, no good ones so far) - any suggestions? Pastas for sure. Brown gravy mixes - I doctor those up with red wine, butter and brown mushrooms for meatballs/ mash potatoes and gravy. We also have buckets and buckets of different rices - we eat a lot of rice. Oh and our house CANNOT run out of pickled jalapenos - it would cause widespread rebellion.

I even stock up on can goods from the store, now, of things that i might be canning later because things can always ruin my garden and leave me with nothing. Our tomatoes haven't been doing as well the past couple years.

I actually started going to the mennonite store where they sell sleeves of 60ct superb lids and I will stock up on 8 sleeves during the winter when you dont have to worry as much about if there are any available or not.

I love it too. Already started for my adult kids. Cases of corn and green beans, pasta and sauce, peanut butter, jelly. That’s it so far. I’m already ready for winter!! At my house🤣 I use the PB2 powder. It’s expensive. I get three cases of every vegetable. Lots of different beans. Canned meats.

I just went to winco and started stocking for winter fall holidays, it’s not cheap but I do it every week w what I can afford, I have noticed egg prices are creeping back up along w butter, I have no shame in what I buy in can form or cheese stuff, it’s what my family eats, along w canning things also and from the garden, I buy organic when I can, and canned stuff from the store, a lot of organic things are just not in my budget, my family gets good healthy food within the budget I can afford, I say something is better than nothing💜

So true that our eating habits change. When I was going to work as a sub teacher, or before that, on my school bus, I went through a lot of dried fruit, vienna sausages, and other food that travelled well. I spent two days cleaning and re-arranging my pantry last week - a good job to do in the coolest part of my farm during the hottest weather - and dusted off some of those Vienna sausages. I put them where they are more noticeable. I threw out a bunch of BBQ sauce I canned, and some (not all) salsa. Lately I prefer my salty snacks plain. My inventory is up to date, and being added to every day as I pick berries and freeze them, make jam, etc. Next up will be canning beans! For cheese, I stock up when it goes on sale: June is dairy month, then sometimes for holidays like Christmas and New Years it is often on sale. I put it in the freezer and it does just fine. Now, it will fall apart in chunks and not stay together when you cut it, but that is fine for macaroni and cheese, etc.

I grate mine with food processor then freeze in qt ziploc bags. About 1/3 to 1/2 bag is perfect portion size for 2 of us b 4 it goes bad

I was just going to say grate it up. It melts well in omelets, enchiladas, casserole whatever you're doing. Not so much to snack cause it crumbles.

It's always a good idea to have back-ups. You never know what can happen-- jars bust, food gardens fail, and 'tin can' food is better than no food and do tend to last a bit longer. If anything else, they can be given to people who couldn't be as prepared (we all had those emergencies that wiped ya out of money and energy)

I started using 5 dollars a week for building a pantry four years ago. I can do the same as you, buying in bulk because of my stocks. This month Im buying a dozen cans each of corn, green beans, lentils and carrots. Next month it will be a dozen cans of fruit, evaporated milk, and custard. Also six each of spam, ham, chicken, corned beef, tuna and Stagg Chilli

I keep a lot of tomato products on hand as well; tomato paste, tomato sauce (2 sizes), rotel, tomatoes.

@@Bloodhoundjed1 Oh I love Rotel. I buy it by the case. Here is a recipe I have been using for more than 50 years....1 can Original Rotel and 2 8oz. bricks of cream cheese. (You can use store brand if you want but do not use low fat versions it doesn't do well) Mix the softened cream cheese with Rotel using a hand mixer until well blended. If you want to add some garlic powder to your taste that is OK too, but I usually just use the 2 ingredients. Pour into a storage container and chill for a few hours. This is a great dip for Fritos or chips, it is also delicious on a hamburger, or used as a dip for vegetables.

We have been stocking up on working hands hand cream, have 3 so far..(CVS pharmacy sends coupons via text message when you sign up for their rewards card, some are as good as $5 coupon off any product😊), coricidin HBP cough syrups, tissues, toliet paper, napkins, liquid soaps, various canned veggies and canned potatoes( we make a lot of soups in the winter), canned pork n beans, pasta and pasta sauce. You name it..we stock up..to get thru winter..i learned this over 50 yrs ago from my grandparents. They had a picnic table in their cellar..on it was all kinds of food to get thru winter..then they had an old tall white cupboard..that cupboard held all kinds of soap powder, bars of soap,etc.

Well if you cook extra pasta and dehydrate it, you can rehydrate it in cool water and make pasta salad when it is too hot to cook.

I just did a big haul a week or so ago. Bow ties, tomato products, chicken stock paste, spices, olive oil, toilet paper and coffee. We are in pretty good shape. I went through the pantry to find items that need/should be used by end of year and replaced them. Have a wonderful weekend.

I'm stocking up on chili beans, canned meats & veg, & canned fruit. I gave almost enough frozen dibs & dabs of stuff to make a HUGE batch of veg beef soup. Already have ham & bean soup in the freezer. I like to keep unsweetened cocoa powder on hand. Great for hot chocolate, pudding, chocolate gravy ( it's a thing here in the south!). Baking happens mostly in the winter for me. Thanks for the early prepping nudge!

Last year my husband lost his job on New Years Eve (Our Anniversary) due to company cut backs. I was wxtremely thankful that I had done a winter pantry stock up of food, household, and Hygiene items. If I had not done that I just can not imagine how bad things would have gotten for us then. He was out of work for 2 months and during that time my husband definitely developed an all new appreciation for my efforts of stocking the pantry and freezers with a yrs worth of everything we use. He use to question if we really needed that much stuff at one time! (Last yr was the first year that I was able to actually stock enough for a full "Year's" worth and I am happy to say I didnt overstock and just 2 items was understocked.) Needless to say he doesnt question anything anymore and he did get tonsee I did not "over stock" any thing and it "potentially go to waste".

This is my time we stock up on fruit/fruit juices. The kids are always looking for something "fresh" as they say in the winter but winter isn't fruit time. So I get every fruit on sale and can, can, can and use scraps to make fruit lemonade.

I've been hearing peaches are in short supply this year. I called an ad in the paper and asked for the price before I ordered a box. The price has doubled over last year! So we went and bought a case if canned peaches instead.

Just canned 5 3/4 jars of low sugar blackberry jelly. 5 or 6 cases of jam and jelly so far. Did a bath tub of spinach years ago got me maybe a canner full of spinach. Never again!

LOL, not crazy stuff ❤ we started cutting and splitting firewood for 2024-2025 winter season, I know it’s not about the pantry but just as important. I’ve canned this years sweet peas, green beans, peaches, strawberry and raspberry jams. Pickles and my corn is husking and my tomatoes are being to turn ☺️in two weeks I’ll be busy and I’m Blessed.

You've given me a lot of good ideas. I weeded the carrot beds today. Hubby is building more raised beds from free pallets. Dehydrating my herbs. Getting some fermentation done, yum. Lots of rain here (NE PA) everything is growing well, but not ready to pick. Next weekend I'm going to a local farm stand where I can get veg in bulk to do some canning.....with my NEW pressure canner!!! Invested in a 2nd canner and extra supplies because of the advice from you and others in the know. Thanks for all you do!

I just got Prego spaghetti sauce on clearance for 70 cents a jar rather than Krogers “normal” price of $2.70!! We are spaghetti sauce snobs and so our jars will see us through the winter with a 75% savings too!!

we are getting stocked up here too i buy 1 years worth of everything we eat i had a 995 dollar budget this month i been stacking it im still spending i still have about 500 to spend yet but i only have tis much of a budget 1 time a year so i have to use it wisely cause it gots to last a year that and my garden are our winters groceries and our meat that is sourced locally in large quantities we have 5 freezers we fill 2 times a year but i feed my 3 adult sons 2 have wives and kids 3 kids between them my twin boys and my sweet sweet petunia granddaughter my mini me all three look and act just lie me im their homeschool teacher they are all still preschool its the twins last year we will start kindergarten the following year they grow too fast

I stopped at Schnuck's today on my way home from work and they had bacon on sale for $2.99! Haven't seen that price in at least 6 months so I bought a few and will stop again tomorrow for a few more. Yes Always stocking up when it's cost effective

All I use is mrs wages! Love anything by her. Always use kosher dill mix for my pickles plus add jalapeño, garlic cloves, fresh grape leaves and fresh dill. Best pickles ever!

Let us know when you try the mrs. Wages seasonings. I groped San marzano and roma tomatoes in my garden and used them in mrs. Wages salsa, pasta sauce and tomato soup. The dill pickle mix is good too.

I too begin shopping early for the fall and winter months. Now is the time I plan my holiday meals. There is always an item that’s plentiful all year (like cranberry sauce) until the onset of the holidays. We prefer fresh but unless the price is right we use canned cranberry sauce. If I find a super deal then I buy 4-6 bags and make my own and can it up for the year. In addition to candied fruit for fruit cakes I’ll add dried fruits too. They’re usually in stock all year and do great in the freezer. I’ve been doing this for years and it insures me to have everything in advance and it saves on the grocery bill as well. I also check my stockpile and even though I’m not in need of anything I’ll still pick up one or two items. Paper products, cleaning supplies and whatever I find on special that fits in my stockpile.

I’m going to be teaching some cousins of mine how to can. Somehow I have the most experience despite being the youngest, so this month I’ll be helping them stock up and doing tomatoes for myself. I have everything else for me as a single adult and then some, but lately a lot of farmers markets here have orange tomatoes which I want to switch to. Orange tomatoes are lower acid than regular and I have GERD. I adore tomatoes and won’t give them up but I will go to the effort to get a lower acid one and hopefully I can get plenty for the next year before growing my own next year. It’s always interesting to me the things people prioritize and why and the thought process, because it sparks my own thinking for mine.

@@heatherk8931 soak overnight to help soften and speed cooking time. Then cover with water and simmer 30 minutes. Ladle beans only in jars, add cooking liquid or boiling water to jars leaving 1” headspace. Processing time vary by jar size and canner type

Canned peaches, pears, and fruit cocktail. Tomato soup (yeah, Campbells or even Walmart), chili, and clam chowder + extra cans of diced clams, hash or canned corned beef to make hash, lots of spam (but that a year-round thing 'cause hubby loves his spam, egg & cheese sandwiches). Then, we'll see where Fall takes us.

Time to start stocking up on chili making ingredients. I do a simple one - 1 can kidney beans, 1 can crushed tomatoes, chicken broth, packet of chili seasoning. I buy packets of fresh ground turkey or chicken when it goes on sale buy 1, get 1 and pop it into the freezer. When it comes time to make it, all I need is some fresh onion, green pepper to dice and saute before I add the other ingredients to the pot. If you want to stock up on onion and peppers, you can buy the frozen bag of peppers and onions at Walmart when they go on sale.

I'm doing 1 year with out grocery store , so my stock up is for 1 year. I dont drive and cab fare to my grocery store is 45.00 per trip, so doing huge hauls is perfect for me.. I'm a low income only parent , and doing this makes me feel good. Some people get their nails done, some their hair, I cut my own hair and save all the money for food hauls.. I live in Ontario local produce went really high in price , I have gardens which help , but you better believe I'll buy frozen fruit, still from ontario over paying 6.50 for a tiny box of strawberries, or buy frozen corn over doing my own paying 8.00 a dozen for corn. If I see butter at 5.00 a lb I'll buy 10 lbs and put in freezer it's usually 7.99 -9.99 lb , if I see milk on sale ( ours comes in bags) it's usually 6.99 if it drops on sale for 5.99 I'll buy 10 bags and throw in freezer. Prices are not decreasing they will just get worse. I feel less stress knowing I'm prepared. I also start in july but in sept I get my haul of root veggies and apples and other fall harvest and it goes in my cold storage. I grow root veggies but not enough to last 1 yr . And yes it lasts all year in cold storage .. Keep up the great work..

My Christian pantry has recently cut back on handing out 40 pound boxes of frozen miss-cut chicken; thighs or drumsticks or chicken breast. I was able to get a box twice a month. One box of chicken breasts gave me 35 pints canned. Then ive also gotten potatoes (white and sweet), carrots, cabbage, onions, blackberries, mangos. At 72 I've learned to can for the first time in my life. So I'm just canning my little heart out and loving it.

I’ve started stocking up for winter as well. I’m fortunate to have 2 pantries. One larger & one smaller. I don’t get people who buy foods just because there on sale, that they don’t like. Lots of canned fruits for me. Granted, we hardly had a winter this year but you never know , could be bad this coming up winter.

2 summers ago I found some organic 1# quality made in italy spaghetti which is the ive ever eatten..it was 50 cents its best buy date was 24..i hit that endcap every week buying 20 at a time...at the end of summer they moved the spaghetti case loads to the shelf and put 1.50 price it. Im still eatting it..probaly will have it for years. Delicious!
