I live in Tonopah, AZ. Here, except in the area of hot springs, the temp of the ground is a fairly stable 72F, which is excellent for geothermal heating and cooling. Up in the mountains, it's a little lower, but still in the optimal range. An underground water tank my not freeze, if you insulate the top.

I lived in Tonopah in 1976. Worked at both restaurants and one gas station while there. Wondering if the irrigation outlet with the pool/hot tub is still there outside of town. We spent so much time there!

Happy New year! Have you thought of leaving the original doors in place after you get the new one up? Might give an extra layer of insulation from cold & heat until you get the second dome and the hallway built. Just a thought ☺. You guys are doing great and it's nice to see you smiling! Stay warm.

I endorse this idea. Air lock/ mud room. The door Jess is fixing up will let nice light in. Don’t know which direction it faces but you might start some seeds there, easy to pull them inside after sun drops

Airgaps are useful. Could maybe put coathooks in the entry walls.. big spikes could be driven into the mudwalls for the hook supports.

2:27 I had my dog spayed and they only put these internal "stitches," and not the external stitches. We found her with her intestines hanging in a wad beneath her belly, just off the floor while she stood. Everyone was panicking, and crying, and I grabbed her and tried to pull her intestines up closer to her belly. I wrapped her stomach with a towel, and rushed her to an emergency vet 25 miles away. Although, she's no longer with us, she survived that day. Almost no day goes by that I don't think about her.

Love the frosty snow look in the desert. I'm missing out because I am visiting my daughter in Zimbabwe where everything is rainy, tropical and green. Always test your gas connection with soapy water to make sure no bubbles form. You don't want a gas leak. Even if you did do this, it's advisable to show this step on video otherwise you come across as being irresponsible. Happy New Year. Great you celebrated in the dome.

Happy New Year... Have you thought of a Rocket stove for your dome? I've been watching the thelittlehomestread. They've made 3 or 4 in the earthbag homes.... Just a thought but they heat them and the basement. It takes very little wood to heat with them.

I would not use MDF boards for an external door frame. You will need to make sure that that does not get hit by any direct rain exposure. I think it looks nice, and will probably hold up for a year until you get the second dome finished and redo the door situation.

Povidine iodine is cheap and good for topical use on wounds. Also Yarrow tea for small cuts and wounds and even nails that get clipped to short: yarrow stops blood, takes the pain away and disinfects and speeds healing. Pets seem to like the smell of it and it makes them trust you better. I keep it around for if I cut a finger, I make some tea, soak the finger cut in it and then use a band aid. It's the best! It is pretty drought resistant: you may be able to grow some out where you are with just a tiny bit of water. . . grey maybe. If you have some shade to grow aloe in, also quite drought/heat resistant
