You could try out sheetrock mudding trays & tools, or plastering/brick laying tools.

Maybe try a big scraper? Like a flat service you would be able to smear it on. Looks great so far and I can't wait to see the vision. Good job you two.

You could try flinging the thinner mud mix on with a shovel. OR given you've got small batches of mud slurry, Perhaps using a Plasterers "hawk and Trowel" might be better! Hold the hawk up against the wall horizontally and pushing the mud mix on and up the wall with the trowel in the other hand.(Watch a plasterers video to get an idea if unsure of the technique) - but it Might go on a LOT quicker and more uniform doing this way.. Have a great week!

What kind of mud mix are you working with? Is it just dirt and water? I wondered how the Indians made adobe? I noticed some contractors use a stucco mesh, Love you guys your house is going to be so worth it, My husband and I built our earth berm it took 20 years, We put the blocks up put the roof on and moved in with a dirt floor and 3 light bulbs and to use the travel trailer for the bath house for another year, Hardest thing for me was taking the laundry to town, we both worked then built when we had time and money, you guys got this and its going to be great! I love your channel 👍👍♥

Try a sandblasting like setup for the initial layer of clay...

Plastering people sometimes use a slinger type sprayer. They don't rely as much on compressed air. They are designed to handle sheet rock mud which is more the consistency of what you have.

We know you and your loving wife will get it all done in time you must been reading my mind Jim. I was just gonna suggest to you to use the sprayer. It’ll probably be a little bit faster and accurate to get it done on time.

the sprayer you need a larger compressor and use the larger hole in nossle - I would add cement or sand and cerement to the clay to make it water proof and wood stick better

Best way to do it is by hand. Smack the mud on the wall and then use your hand to spread and smooth it. The trick is to smack it on the wall.

Beautiful words from both of you. Lovely to see the different methods. This first coat is the key. Getting it into the straw. Love the life you've chosen. I too have chosen a similar lifestyle building and planting but way down the bottom of Australia. I feel so lucky that I can do this in my 70's. it's so rewarding to achieve the off grid life and grow some of our own foods. Love watching your journey and thank you

Hi guys,I'm into my early eighties and still quite fit, in good health no aches or pains I just have to do things at a slower pace, so I guess I'm just grateful I'm able to rise from bed each morning so you could say live one day at a time.

This is hard but when you get old you will be able to enjoy it. Time and motion. You were doing a lot of extra work carrying the rocks in a shovel from one side of the wall to the other. Keep you material close to where you work. I like what you are doing.

Every time you have rain it'll wash that mud off your straw bales and you'll have to redo it so wise up, and plaster cement it permanently. Otherwise keep up the good work, love you both.❤❤❤❤❤

Use pool towels (rounded on the ends). I've done tons of stucco here in Haiti building my orphanage of 7500 sq ft. You use a pair together to left the heft out of the mud pay scraping mud off one with other. You will be amazingly adept and gain some real speed in no time. I started with a 4000 2 story house in the states 25 years ago using type "n" cement which the consistency of your clay. You'll get real goid, real quick and move the process better than the hand method.

I just want to purchase land to have him build his dream life just like you guys!!

Hi Jim the best way to apply slip is to throw it on the wall using a hand trowel. Don't be tempted to work it in. Just lay down a layer and let it dry slightly then go back and apply a second coat. Which you can smooth if you have a mind to.
