The biodiversity of the ecosystem is one of the most rare in the world. There are hundreds of plants that are not found anywhere else, and also has more birds flying thru there than any other "park" on the planet.

Big bend is beautiful!! It does take forever to get anywhere though. We had to stay at RV Village because it was too hot for Nova. Our doggo. We were lucky enough to go to Boquillas. We actually hiked there from RV Village. (Our video is posted if you're bored-Lol!) Santa Elena trail was washed out though so we never got to do it. So jealous! Thanks for another great video!!

Flower at 14:44 is desert marigold.... very common here in NM. I have a great book "Wildflowers of NM" by Littlefield and Burns. Highly recommend as it is all full color. Rio Grande flows north-south thru New Mexico and it is not "grand" anywhere anymore. You can literally walk across it almost anywhere I have seen. It is higher in Spring with the mountain snow melt but... still nothing like it used to be.

I think the river rules are to insure everyone has a life jacket and paddle. I think they were more strict because I was going by myself. This way if they gave me a life jacket and paddle they knew for sure I had one. It was kind of funny though. I was definitely expecting the Rio Grand to be much bigger.
@KB-ke3fi
@KB-ke3fi 3 жыл бұрын
The Mexicans called it the Rio Grande not because of the size, but the length. Also, legend has it since it's the only river in the desert that actually has water, it was very exciting to even find water to drink for a thousand miles. So, it's a double meaning, like it was very grande, or good...meaning wonderful.

Hi! I’ve tried to research and cannot seem to find the 50 mile stretch along the Rio Grande that you can boondock. Little did any of us who live in Texas know what that week had in store for us. The local weather reporter (San Antonio area) said their could be a chance of a few inches of snow on Monday morning about 6am (the day after Valentine's day). When in fact in started snowing around 6pm on Valentine's day evening in some areas on the outskirts of town. And had started snowing heavily in my area of town (north side) around 8:30 pm. By 10pm we started having power outages, purposely brought on by the power companies to try to 'conserve energy'!!

17:52 😄 ...I noticed that too, I was gonna ask the same question. I've been to Big Bend twice I believe, both times it was over 105+, it was very dry, in the late 90's. The Rio Grand at the most southern tip, was like 20" wide, at it's narrowest point. I jumped back and forth across the "border" 😄 I'm a native Texican, I grew up in coastal cities. I had no idea that something like Big Bend existed in Texas, or deserts, or mountain range, before visiting Alpine, Marfa, Marathon, Study Butte - Terlingua, and Big Bend 😊 I went down there with a herpetologist, who liked photographing snakes reptiles and amphibians. -- Alfredo @ Tyler, TX

Awesome video. As someone that works and lives in Big Bend National Park I love that you're showing the beauty of the park to people. It's funny that you were here for that snow storm. Wow snow in the desert has to be the prettiest thing I've seen so far. So, I have a question....we have a nissan cube which will be our tow vehicle...I'm wondering if we would of made it through there. Whatcha think? (Emilie)
@oneadVANtureatatime
@oneadVANtureatatime 3 жыл бұрын
on a dry day maybe? We are not sure of the clearance a Nissan Cube has.... you would need to know that. We do not recommend it without high clearance and off-road experience. You will run into a lot of 4x4's out there and will need to pull off the road at times. The road got a lot rougher a few miles up the road where even some 4X4's turned around. Hope this helps.
@OurPOVThatsItThatsAll
@OurPOVThatsItThatsAll 3 жыл бұрын
@@oneadVANtureatatime oh wow yes that helps. The little cube won't be making it down that road. It's such a hard decision on what tow vehicle to bring. Our motorhome is old and can only pull something small.

I have a dog and if the park isn't dog friendly, I wouldn't go there. Don't go all the way through, but if you drill at the end of the crack, it will stop it. Get at least a 2 inch lift kit put on your rig that way you could explore those off road trails. You have maxtracks if you get stuck.
