Well done for having a go, but there is so much wrong with this that I barely know where to start. Siting of the shelter is questionable. The cold air will roll down off that hill into the low ground where you have your shelter and work against you. Your cross pieces for your shelter were too flimsy and should not be trusted. The rule is: Wrist thick or better for weight-bearing limbs and it should be green wood. Learn the Canadian jam knot to save your cordage. Also learn the constructor knot. Your lashings were awful. Your bed was way too high. It should be around 15 inches off the ground to allow you to sit with your knees at right angles, but allow the radiated heat to enter underneath and warm you from below. Your fire was too far away from your bed. It should be no more than one pace away. Look up the inverse square law and you’ll see what I mean. Your reflector (or re-emitter) was way too small and so was your fire. You need a reflector as long as your bed, built to chest height, and with thick enough logs to create thermal mass (at least 4” thick) and so re-emit the heat back towards you. Your pot hook should have at least three positions on it: Warm, simmer, and boil. You had one position. Your shelter was, quite frankly, pathetic. The first snow would have seen it sag into a wet mess. And it had zero thermal mass and was only protecting from wind on one side. Plus, if the wind picked up, you had almost no protection from widow-makers (falling dead branches from above). With a little effort you could have had a decent lean-to made with deadfall and create a warmer, more robust shelter. Your axe skills were atrocious; they were painful to watch and need a lot of work. There are many good videos on how to use an axe properly, including by Ray Mears and Paul Kirtley. And the table cloth you put on the bed; what in earth was that for? It served no purpose whatsoever. You packed a lot of gear into the bush, but didn’t take a sleeping mat or a sleeping bag? Why not? Unless it was a challenge to go without in which case you should have said so in your video description. But I actually don’t think you slept like that all night. No pillow? You could have used your ruck sack. I believe your shelter was a fail and if you were one of my students, I’d make you tear it down, re-site it, and start again under close supervision. The problem I have with videos like yours is that to the uninitiated, what you did looked pretty cool (as is plainly clear from the comments below). But to those that know, you were setting yourself up for disaster. So go and get some training and stop watching KZbin videos to get your ideas, because your interpretation of them is fundamentally flawed, and could get someone into a very dangerous situation if they copied you. This is a classic case of the Dunning-Kruger effect, pretty much in the extreme. All show and no go. Concentrate on your bush skills and not on your video skills (which are far superior right now).

“All those things you mentioned might be useful advice for someone who doesn’t know anything about survival, but I’m the exact opposite. Maybe I didn’t fully showcase my abilities in the video, but I’ve spent countless days in the forest, mountains, snow, and rain. I’ve been doing this since I was a kid-hunting, hiking, and surviving in the harshest conditions are second nature to me. Instead of throwing around textbook advice, you’d better go out and put your skills into practice. Let’s see if you can even hold an axe properly, tie a knot, or survive in such conditions. I’ve slept without a pillow or blanket on frozen, rocky ground in the mountains. A sleeping bag? 😂 Your words are better suited for your classroom. Out here, in the wilderness, it’s all about action, my friend-not talk. Come out here and show me what you’re really capable of. As far as I’m concerned, my shelter, my bed, and my fire were all good because I survived, and I’m here now replying to your comment. You said my axe skills were awful-maybe it’s the first time you’ve ever seen an axe up close, but I’ve been handling an axe since I was 5 years old. Sure, everyone can improve, but people like you only know how to talk from books. Why don’t you go spend a night in the snow and ice without gear and see if you can make it out alive? My survival skills get better every single day. I know how to load up a truck with equipment and build elaborate shelters in the forest
