Hi i love me Soulo and Tarra both sand. I have not used in deep snow but in high winds in the north of Scotland. The Tarra has stood in very strong winds it is a unbelievable tent It just doesnt move in high gusts from any direction. I bought the Soulo for single person camping as the Tarra is heavy. Compromise many parts of your gear but i have learnt after 40 years of camping that the Soulo and Tarra are two of the best tents in the world.

Nice reserved and authoritative Swedish delivery in impeccable English. I'm sure this info can be applied to tents from other manufacturers but it won't turn a rubbish tent into a Hilleberg. Just wish I could afford one.

Hilleberg is more than The Tentmaker. Hilleberg is Legend! My Enan was great when winter backpacking (yes I know its a Yellow Label 3 season shelter). I don't suppose there's a spare Soulo knocking around the Hilleberg office that I could liberate? ; )

Thank you for sharing! Personally, I have my own "special" tent plugs (31 cm long and 50 cm long) for use in deep snow and / or in sand (from Hilleberg and Helsport). But I wonder if anyone has experience with pitching a tent plug - when there is frost on the ground? (eg when there is little snow). I know that e.g. Hilleberg makes a type called "X-peg". Hilleberg X-peg’s 30 cm (12 in) length. Has anyone of you tested tent pegs - when there is frost on the ground?

So, how do you secure a tent if there isn't enough snow to anchor with snow stakes and the ground is frozen rock hard?
@eramaidenkulkija
@eramaidenkulkija 3 жыл бұрын
If you can find some loose stones they are good for anchoring the tent. You need to have some extra line and just wrap the stone like a X-mas present and attach a loose end to the tent's attachment points. The stones need to be heavy and big enough. I would say about 10-15kg is a good starting point. If no stones are present you can use for example the Stinger titanium pegs which will easily penetrate hammered even some rock hard frozen soil.

Lorenzo, who bikepacked around in upper Siberia, had two methods for this. You can find his channel/video on YT. • Screws (with a ratchet) for pitching on ice. Often you'll see climbers use these to secure rope on ice walls. • The other method is large flat screw drivers. Cheap and they're welded, so they'll survive everything. Use a hammer.

I would use the adze of an ice axe and make a T. Then bury your snow stakes with the guy line running from the intersection of the T

I'm new to the backpacking/ultralight game, and am just starting out with my research in regards to purchasing a tent. To me, a dome with triangle shapes seems a lot stronger then the hoop look of the Hilleberg. Can someone please explain why these tents are rated better?
@HillebergTentmaker
@HillebergTentmaker 3 жыл бұрын
We have both dome and tunnel tents. A tunnel tent will give you the best space to weight ratio so that is why we often use them in the winter. Strength does come based on structure but at least as important is materials and functional details and features. We have exceptionally strong materials and every feature on each tent has a functional reason for its placement and form. We also do extensive testing on all our models to ensure the highest performance.
@willek1335
@willek1335 2 жыл бұрын
With proper technique and setup, you can easily pitch a massive tunnel tent in under two minutes, in very high winds. You can never do that with a dome tent. Tunnels are useful when you're repitching everyday and bad weather come out of nowhere. As you said, a dome is stronger, once it's up. Ask yourself if you need a bunker to hunker down in for days or strong tent for when you're on the move.

So what is the point with snow/storm flaps? To eliminate snow sneaking in under the fabric and in to the vestibule? When you add snow/storm flaps, do you also add them to the door? :)

Why all Hilleberg condensate so much, why ...
@MrMarkas3
@MrMarkas3 4 жыл бұрын
Why are your prices so ridiculous? My nallo gt2 3 years ago cost £650 now there over £1000 with the footprint no design change , and it’s not down to the cost of materials. I went to buy a sataris for my growing family to enjoy adventures and make memories but £2000 plus is just crazy for copying a template of material and sewing them together! Your pushing the average hard working guy out of the market , why ? Human greed ? We should all stop buying them until they realise the can’t sell tents at that price and force them to lower the price to a sensible amount. Really saddens me to say that as I love hillebergs.

@@carforumwanker reality is hilleberg has always been a specialist brand for people pushing the limits of their gear, not for mass consumers. But if people want to buy their products and put them up once in their garden or on a paid camping spot in fine weather I'm sure hilleberg will happily take their money. Most people don't need tents like a hilleberg but they think they do and they have the money so they buy them. If I'm out in 50mps winds in the middle of nowhere with no other lifelines I know I will pay to take the best gear possible and that means using companies like hilleberg, whose products are perfect for those of us living in harsh northern climates like here in Scandinavia. Not for your average weekend camper in more southern Regions. So then really it's not to complain about hilleberg prices but about people not knowing what kind of gear they really need
