I am a small boat sailor, and, to safely extend my season into the months when the water here is cold, I’ve bought myself a drysuit, which ran a little over $1k, US. I love it! ❤

Wich one and have you tried it in the sea or just sitting in the sailing boat.

Observed a couple in the Bering Sea only wearing life vests on deck - no immersion/survival suit, and no harness. Tried to explain that they would expire from hypothermia before they could be recovered _if_ the other watch was awake and saw them go in.

@@More_Row Mine is from Kokatat. I’ve tested it and know I can count on it. Many years ago I survived a very brief unintentional swim in 45 degree F. water. It got my attention and taught me a lesson!

Winter-quality Wading Pants are like €200. They reach the armpits, but because you have all your winter clothes underneath, you are very buoyant. They should just add inflatable life belt around the opening so you cannot sink deeper and water cannot ever get in.

I'm sat here in bed with a hot water bottle, watching you submerge yourself in a hole in the ice 🤣.👍🏾🇬🇧💙

Impressive battery tech to work in such cold conditions and still give enough current to run a hi torque ice screw. Did you have to cold proof it?

Nope - it was an off the shelf model from www.razrpowr.com/ Li-Ion is pretty good for discharge in the cold.

Hi Alex. I couldn't help but think "Rather you than me" as you slipped into that water as I sipped coffee from my warm office watching the video! Have you ever tried the "Fladen Immersion Suit" I have one and it has been amazing for onshore antics in the cold aswell as being very warm in the coler Spring water. Its only £220 though so I suspect not quite up to the chill of the Arctic circle. Would be interested to know how that suit compares to his one?

The Fladen suit is a floatation suit, so it's not there to keep you dry. It's not sealed. Its purpose is to keep the occupant buoyant, and to slow hypothermia until rescue.
