@rittj.130310 күн бұрын
I appreciate you showing when things don't work out in thrift stores as well as things that fit. Extremely relatable as a plus-sized thrifter. I also like the "rediscovered" section! What a fun idea for a haul video! It encourages me to shop my closet more. For fabric dying, the only advice I have is follow the bottle instructions and that pre-wetting the fabric is a very important step for even dye adhesion. I love the idea of decorative pinning your coat! If you're afraid of losing them, you could try adding some anchoring stitches to the broach to hold it in place! Going through the loops of the pin would be an extra security measure if it comes undone. Great video!
@lisa_wistfulone795710 күн бұрын
Great idea about anchoring decorative pins with stitches! I have several gorgeous old pins that were my mom’s, and it would break my heart to lose them. I tend to use the same ones on coats and jackets, so a few whipstitches make sense.
@lovejessicablair9 күн бұрын
thank you so much for the advice! i'll definitely research a bit more about the fabric dye + will probably most definitely add some stitches. that's such a good idea!

I LOOVE that you included the failed attempts in this video! I swear 2/3 times I go thrifting it’s an absolute bust & then I see influencers post videos where they go to one store and come out with an insane haul and it’s so discouraging!! Always appreciate your transparency and love your content!! 💕 Edit: OMG THAT BLACK DRESS ON YOU YESS 🔥🔥🔥

For dying the crocheted hood-if you know what kind of yarn it's made of it will help when you buy the dye! RIT makes specific dyes for natural fibers like cotton/wool and also makes specific dyes for synthetic fibers like acrylic/nylon/rayon etc. But basically, if you try to dye the hood with a dye for natural fibers and it doesn't "stick" it's probably a synthetic fiber.
@STRANGExFACINATIONS10 күн бұрын
Yes! I’ll add that synthetic fibers (like acrylic) can be more sensitive to heat. Meaning, it is more likely to melt under high heat than natural fibers (cotton, linen)

Your videos are my comfort content right now. They always have such a cozy vibe to them, plus I love your chats, your aesthetic and you're inspiring me to go thrifting more and buy less new stuff. 🖤 Also I really, REALLY need to declutter my closet again, because I have way too much clothing I don't actually wear. I love putting on your decluttering videos in the background and doing it together, same with the cleaning / organizing videos. 😁 Hope the seasonal depression doesn't hit too hard and I definitely feel your period pain with you. 🥺❤️

@Turtsburglar10 күн бұрын
ALSO! About dyeing the hood, check the fabric content! If you aren’t sure, make sure you grab dye for both natural fabric and for synthetic! A lot of yarns have some acrylic content to them so it’s not always guaranteed that the natural fabric dye will be efficient. I like rit dyes but in the liquid- the powder is spotty. If you have any questions or need help, let me know! I’ve loved dyeing fabrics and clothing for a very long time!
@lovejessicablair10 күн бұрын
thank you so much!! i'll research a bit + let you all know how it turned out!

@@lovejessicablair if you have a stainless steel sink, that’s the method I use to dye! I just add dish soap, salt, and very hot water. I don’t love the washing machine method bc it can come out spotty… and if you do the pot method, I recommend a stainless steel stock pot that you do not use for food. The best part of dyeing is that it kind of opens the possibility for things that you thrift. The only problem color is black! Dependent on the fabric, it takes a lot of work to get a true black so I would avoid unless you want a big project lol ANYWAY! Keep in mind when you’re dyeing that a lot of items will have synthetic thread used in the stitching even if the fabric is something like cotton…. So the stitching may not dye. You’ll be able to feel that out as you dive in. GOOD LUCK! :D

A hack to make sure pins don’t fall of is to put a safety pin through the hole part of the pin. It works with buttons I’m not sure about cameo pins. Also locking pin backs work pretty well with enamel pins.

I would love to see a video where you shop your own wardrobe and rediscover older pieces that you maybe forgot about or haven't worn in a while. Then make outfits with and wear out. Rachel Maksy on youtube dyes a wool vest a darker colour in this video A Closet PURGE *and also some mending* that might help you with the green hood if you still want to dye it.
@gabriellereed531710 күн бұрын
I wanted so badly to thrift a good long wool coat but I just ended up buying one new because it is SO COLD outside and it was a need. I think that maybe they aren't thrifted as often because they tend to be passed down instea? It also does not help that I am so specific in what I want. I have a VISION!!!!! I was searching poshmark for months too (which does have a lot of great options, it's just that a lot of them are $$$ so you have to be really certain you will love it, imo, plus it's so hard picking the right size for coats, online especially)

I’ve tried a lot of fabric dye. The main thing is what kind of fibre it’s made of. Natural fibres will take ALL of the dye IMMEDIATELY. A blended fibre content might give a ‘heather’ effect, with the original colour showing through. A polyester fibre will resist all but IDye Poly brand, which you need to find in an art supply store. With adding dark colours, the risk is going too far and getting a green shade of black. Then you need a box of colour remover to start over. Sigh. Dilute. Make sure to use a fixative afterwards.

Your sunflower tattoo is one of my favourite tattoos I've ever seen, so when you picked up the sunflower stained glass piece I knew that was coming home with you. Also I agree with the not covering up the pimple when you have hormonal acne. Putting concealer on them always makes it worse for me. I don't get people judging having pimple patches on either. Like would have a go at someone putting a band-aid on a cut on their finger? No, so why do people hate the acne patches, when they are basically band-aids for your face wounds.

possibly!! i’ve only lived here for about 5 months so i feel like it’s too soon to make a conclusive pros/cons list, but i will say that i spent soooo much time in chicago over the past 8ish years before moving here and its truly my favorite! like there’s definite downsides (cost of living rising, public transit could be SO much better but still doable, it gets COLD here, etc) but i love this city so much
