Emergency winter gear for people that have to deal with snow and ice like I do. In this video we just take a look at the survival gear that I keep in my Tacoma - much of it is gear that I hope you don't have to use - but it's all stuff that you should definitely keep with you in the winter. This gear will help you either get to where you need to be, or survive in your car if you absolulutely cannot make it to your destination. Now I know much of the U.S. (and the world) doesn't have extreme winters like I have here in Colorado - but also there are a lot of places that have worse winters than I do!

I live in Alaska, drive the same truck and carry roughly the same gear in my rig :-) Studs are a lifesaver where I live! I haven't had to use my chains yet with 4x4, snow tires and studs. The Tacoma is a beast!

You should keep the extra clothing inside the cab so it’s at temperature. The clothing will already be warm and comfortable as opposed to having to wait. Your body will use up more energy bringing the clothing to temp.

I live in Northern Utah and I feel you on the snow. I have used my winch 2 times already this winter to pull a few stranded drivers out. I keep similar items in my Jeep. Good video.

Last Line Of Defense just a heads up, the windshield washer fluid you have will freeze. I've driven commercial trucks for a while and the only one that hasn't frozen is the purple fluid in the same gallon bottle you have rated at -32°F . Found easily at most truck stops or online. Love the vids.

Have a '15 Tacoma SR5 4x4 double cab. Visited relatives in Steamboat for the first time and fell in love with CO. My rig enjoyed the winter weather. I packed some basic gear and the trip was problem free. Good stuff you post!

Some solid tips! One thing I do is keep an good sized Coleman cooler near the size of your bin to organize some of my gear and also helps slow the freezing of water, especially if you commute daily. Love seeing the terrain and landscapes there and hoping to see more. Take care.

Good info, especially pointing out the rubber compound difference in winter tires vs other tires! We don't like nearly as high as you do here in Colorado but I like to keep a lot of this gear on hand since I like to get off into the mountains when I can. Also like the AR, probably don't need it stuck in a snow bank some where but as the old saying goes, rather have it and not need it...

Us Tacoma drivers know we actually don't need these "incase" kits cause these trucks just don't break down. But just in case we see a GM on the side of the road it's always good to lend a helping hand

I bought a 2004 TRD Tacoma new. I drove it for 15 years and it never broke-down, failed to start, nor did it ever get stuck. I recently got rid of it and replaced it with a 2019 TRD Tacoma. ...but I do keep emergency gear in it. Those Chevy and Dodge drivers are always appreciative. 😆

Extra fuel is always good. I was once driving home from leave through Texas and ended up being stuck in the middle of nowhere on the interstate in a blizzard. Had to idle for 12 hours to run the heater because it was 20 degrees out and I didnt have any winter gear. Learned a valuable lesson that night.

Yeah, it's probably something that I'll pick up at some point - pretty expensive though for something I may never use. If I end up doing more wheeling/overlanding - it'd definitely be a good investment though.

Great vid!! You deserve more views and subs. We gotta figure out a way to spread the word. I would add I always carry a big 3 wick candle(crack the window when using of course) peanuts, and glow sticks or flares to mark my car so someone doesn't slam into me. Also, when I used to have a car VS an SUV I would weight my car down with two big bags of sand on either side of the truck or rear passenger seat, just thoughts. Good vid. You'll probably need all that just stuff just to survive the 285 gauntlet and getting to or from Safeway/Kings (on snowy roads). We can have the best, most capable, supplied up rigs, but the ripple effect of the unprepared are going to be our road block. Cool seeing all the familiar NF locations out in the Pike. That's my playground as well. Sooner or later I'm sure we'll meet up out there. It's a great place and I know most of the nooks and crannies. If you see a green Ram/Camper set up, Green TJ, or Red Eagle SX4 (maybe even a local FD rig) slowing down to wave and chat..... don't be alarmed ! In fact, I'll be out there today getting some peddal time in on my one wheel drive. Be well. Peace~Out !

The only thing I can add, and it's important, is to ditch the tow strap. If recovering a vehicle, you need a kinetic strap. Something like an ARB snatch strap. Your neck, the person you recover's neck and both your rigs will thank you. Any plans on another giveaway anytime soon?

I've used 'standard' tow straps for years without problems, and always wondered if those stretchy straps were worth the extra money. I get the concept and it makes sense - good to know they are significantly better, I'll have to pick one up someday!

You don't put anything in the bed of the truck to way the back down? For better traction, like sandbags or few 45 pound weights. I found that weighing the truck down over the rear axles I've got the best traction in the snow.

How are those tires with slush? I have the Blizzak WS80 on my Crosstrek, and while it is great in packed snow and all sorts of ice, they will easily slide in slushy conditions. Those tires look like they may evacuate/disperse out the slush easily.

Good video. I really like those round magnetic lights. I am going to get some of those for sure.
