Winter Truck Emergency Gear Video - • Winter Truck Gear - Em...
Winter Camping in your truck or car - it's way easier than doing it without a truck / suv / car... This is just a video I threw together of what I did, because people were wanting to see it. It's not too detailed, but I do outline some gear that I used, and will also list some gear that I used that didn't make it into the video (in case you were wondering.)
This camping / overlanding trip was done in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in the snow. Temps dropped down to the single digits at night, but wind was pretty light and there wasn't any snow - so it wasn't too bad!
Gear in this video:
DiamondBack Truck Covers - mbsy.co/hV8Rd
Truck Tent - amzn.to/2kwQm7Y
Mattress / pad - amzn.to/2ldnbpJ
Big roomy sleeping bag - amzn.to/2ldiThN
Propane heater - amzn.to/2kD9K5y
Cheap camo mechanix gloves that I use for everything - amzn.to/2l9EEDl
Folding table - amzn.to/2kIGqdF
Snow Boots - amzn.to/2kD9PpS
Warm socks - amzn.to/2kIiEyD
Jacket - amzn.to/2kI4hKo
Balaclava - amzn.to/2kIc9f0
Headlamp - amzn.to/2kgM3PE
Best car camping stove - amzn.to/2kDsORn
Tire chains I use - amzn.to/2kIcgr6
Snow tires I use - amzn.to/2kI4DAI
Shackles - amzn.to/2jQUUJq
Tow strap I use - amzn.to/2kwzm1z
Tow strap I'm gonna order, haha - amzn.to/2ldhN5W
The best hand warmers - amzn.to/2ldyuyc
Probably other stuff I missed - feel free to ask in the comments!

If you are interested in different shelter options, I would check out CVT roof top tents. they are kinda the golden standard when it comes to rooftop tents. There are other options, but the quality of the CVT if pretty amazing.

Just a tip.. try your best to pull people out forward instead of in reverse. Trucks pull trailers in the back for a reasoj
@LastLineOfDefense
@LastLineOfDefense 7 жыл бұрын
Often times when out on the trail, you can only pull in one direction. But yeah, we wanted to pull from the front, but the snow was too deep up there for me to get any traction, so we had to pull from behind.
@bleepbloop117
@bleepbloop117 7 жыл бұрын
Last Line Of Defense I think what he meant was for you to attach your recovery strap to your rear and the other guys rear. Then you drive "down the hill" rather than in reverse. It's hell on your tranny to pull a load in reverse.
@LastLineOfDefense
@LastLineOfDefense 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I got that, but I was saying I couldn't easily turn my truck around, because if I went off the 'trail' I'd get stuck in the deep snow. Would have been a pain for me and the other guys behind me to reverse all the way to the start of the trail, and then have me turn around and reverse all the way back in to the stuck truck... :/

I drive around 30 minutes or so to my 'regular' shooting spots. There are some closer ones I could go to if I wanted, but I like more privacy. Dogs are rescues, did a DNA test though and the bigger one is Staffordshire Terrier / German Shepherd / something else.

Couple of things you might want to try next time you go out, if you have liquids bring them in the bag when you sleep. If they're out before or going to be out while you sleep keep them upside down liquids freeze from the top down so you can still drink the liquid even if partially frozen. Other than that i like the gear you used. Check out ITS Tactical vid he did coming back from mammoth he goes over some cold weather camping/rucking stuff.

Try turning your liquids upside down over night. The top freezes first so you may have some not frozen when you wake up. But if it's cold enough, it won't help much.

I'd probably stick the pistol inside a sack or something to keep it from frosting over. I kept a ruger LC9 next to me while I slept under the stars in the desert. Everything frosted over in the morning and my gun was rusty. Somehow I slept beautifully though.

Definitely enjoyed seeing the trek, especially battle rough snowing roads and getting out there. The rooftop tents with awnings are pretty nice from what I've seen but I usually make it to a cabin or sleep in the Tahoe, or of course a tent. The little buddy heater looks perfect for your set up and I'll have to look into one of those for myself. Glad to see things going well and looks forward to seeing more great videos. Take care.
