I consider myself to be very fortunate, not for any materialistic reasons, but because I get it, why someone would choose to camp out like this in nature, in winter! Those that need it explained will never truly understand the joy of being there. One only needs to look at the guy to see the joy he gets from this, joy like nothing else can bring. Thank you for the insight into your life in camp, your Grandfather would like that you still use his enamel plate, and your Father that you still use your first Swiss Army Knife (I've carried a Swiss Champ every day for almost 47 years).

The best interview. When I do get out there I'll be in a minivan with a large clam for the living space. I'm a 70 yr old Texas gal myself and could do this in a minute if I could lift the tent and stove. What a way to live. Thank you both for a fabulous interview.

Hi sally When you get the Clam make sure to get a couple wind panels for the Clam sides. They are so so valuable. We have been hit with some high winds in AZ, UT and Nevada and boy have those panels come in handy! We love love our Clam! Safe travels

Hi, I'm in CA and the same age as you. I've always been adventurous. When my girls were little I would pack up the car & take off. I prefer the road less traveled . In Catalina my girls and I would take the back streets. I don't care for fancy shamancy hotels I prefer what I see here. Maybe we'll see each other on the road.I'm getting rid of my stuff. No easy task.

WOW! Thanks Bob and especially Brian for your articulate summary. I used to love to tent camp alone but 14 days was my max in summer (I had a job/young family etc). Now I feel like I could try it again with Brian's example. So Inspiring! Don't give away those campsites! I know where I want to go.

I did winter camping for about 4 years. Used kerosene mainly for heat. It was enjoyable to a point but I think now I could only do it for a day or two at a time. I already did a one night trip up in UP Michigan about a month ago. That reminded me of why it is nice to be in a warmer climate.

Man you got it MADE Brian! You live in that beautiful pristine place and answer to NO ONE! Tent living is a little hard core for me and the cold wind is what's scary. You look quite comfortable, well done brother.

I love the man's spirit...and his courage. He's a modern day Jeremiah Johnson. Instead of a horse his steed is a Toyota Tacoma. Jeremiah built his cabin for winter. Brian built his Cabela's tent for winter camping. Even though I have 60+ years of backpacking experience and living in the wilderness, I would have to go into this realm of living in baby steps. My van and say, a Gazelle T3X or T4 tent with a Mr. Heater Buddy. I was debating on whether to get another Jackery for my refrigerator or a Bluetti. Seeing Brian's set up may have settled that issue for me. Bob, thanks for sharing this interview with us. Mr. Galyon is quite an inspiration.
