Waxwings helped me to realise, many years ago, not to think of our native environment as boring or humdrum. My younger self was amazed that these amazingly exotic looking birds wanted to be in suburban Carlisle.

very nice film, well done. I went to that spot a day or so later.....fewer berries and fewer birds but still got some good shots by that busy main road.

There are red berry trees in a National Park pretty close to my home here in the US just about 9 miles south of NYC. Never seen them there in winter & just noticed them for the first time this year during the summer during their brief visit. Half to go there this week & take a look around. Thanks for the urban nature vid.

Great video, lovely to see waxwings and winter thrushes in Edinburgh. My only criticism is that the video seems to imply that waxwings are thrushes, which they're not.

Not an expert on trees but the tree in video looked like a rowan. I have one in back garden but berries are consumed by end of September (mostly by Starlings) so no waxwings for me 😞. Birders on east coast have definite advantage over west coast for seeing waxwings.

Would very much like to know if that is a Sorbus - and which one? Lovely video.

Firethorn is an evergreen. That could be rowan.

Definitely a Rowan, otherwise known as the Mountain Ash.

@@nutnutdawn1347 Good shout though, Pyracantha (firethorn) are fantastic berry producers. Cotoneaster another one the thrushes love.

They do. Once they have had their fill of berries its straight on to the hard stuff.
