Northern Italy is so different than Southern Italy! This is our second time visiting the Dolomites and we fell even more in love with this area than before...and we didn't think that was possible. :) This time, we experience a winter wonderland, take in the mind-blowing views, and attempt tobogganing.

We’re happy that travel is opening up again as well. It’s tough to see war, fighting, and so many hardships going on in the world. We can’t forget about them or turn the other way, but it is nice to have a chance to step away from it all in nature so we can reset and recharge. Wishing you the best and hopefully you’re able to enjoy traveling again soon :)

Yes, there are really beautiful places in the Alps and all over the world... Some of them look nice with snow in winter and when it's green in summer too. Also Norway, it has many "faces", in summer or in winter on a beautiful winter day with blue skies ... or roads are even closed during snow storms...

I’m a 72 year old American living in Sweden and throughout this video I kept thinking, “You are going to blow your socks off the first time you encounter Norway.” About 22 years ago my husband drove us from Gothenburg, where we were celebrating Easter with family, up through Oslo, Norway to the nearby mountains. I am simply telling the truth. We drove around a corner and the view was so stunning that I burst into tears. Overwhelmed with gratitude and awe. You know how there are places where you simply cannot avoid the existence of a bountiful Creator. (Please note that this is not a question. It is a confirmation.) Norway is one of them. I have not had the joy of visiting the Dolomites, but I have no doubt that I would react as you have. Do you understand how powerfully healing your videos are, showing the delight of healthy relationships? Bless and thank you for sharing your journey with us! Now to MY mundane. I follow you faithfully for my own joy. I don’t want to identify myself every time as “the 72 year old American woman living in Sweden”. My name is Jerri Hådding. I plan, however, to identify myself in the future as “72/7”. Because just now I am 72 years old and because the number “7” has a special meaning for me for many reasons. Among them is the fact that, from my personal experience (including myself 😖🤗), seven year olds KNOW EVERYTHING and they never pause to inform you that what you think you know is wrong when they believe that they are right. The challenge for us older persons is that they are so often right. (Good luck with Willa!)

@@OurStorytoTell I second that. I have been to Norway a few times and it's really stunning. Saltstraumen made me think of the novel "maelstrom" from Edgar Allen poe. All those fjords, waterfalls. But I also enjoyed Lapland in Sweden. Never-ending forests of mountain pines. And no one else there. I was so smitten that I was thinking of moving to Kiruna

You’re absolutely right about the mountains here in the states. To see the real “beauty” of them, gotta strap on a pack and spends days getting around. One with nature doing that. 5, 10, 20 day trips in the backcountry out west for years Now that I’m older, I went to the Dolomites for 3 days last year in September (stayed in Ortisei). Seceda completely blew my mind. I’ve never seen a place more beautiful. Probably the reason I’m going back this year.

Tips to handle the sledge properly when it becomes steep. Sit as far back as possible and for turns no leaning right or left is required for making turns that is just increasing the ability to fall off the sledge although a bit of leaning does the body naturally anyway by every turn simply to hold balance but don´t lean "on purpose" so to say BUT use the feet by putting them on each side in the front of the sledge beside of the slegde´s vats into the snow for doing a turn..use the right foot´s heel for right turns and the left foot´s heel for left turns and to reduce the speed/to stop take the 2 vats at the front in your hands and pull them a bit up in the air so that the back of the vats delve deeper into the snow, don´t use your heels to slow down...that will make the breaking process unstable and increases the chance to crash immensely.

@@OurStorytoTell here you can see the technique as I described for a sledge you had (rigid vats) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKSrmWV8n9CbhNk there are also sledges which are build different (flexible vats) as well which are more for speed and there the technique is a bit different, so always keep an eye on which sledge you actually lend on the hill. Here you can see the technique for flexible vats. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqXKh6ehd7yfapY Way more fun are sledges with flexible vats obviously, but those are for the more experienced sledgers.

Hi guys, I would have bet that you take your parents for a trip to the Dolomiten. Indeed, its a ver beautiful area in north Italy. I had to work once in Bruneck and met heartwarming and friendly people. Even in this part the scenery, landscape, houses was amzing. I am sure, at least one week each year, you will spent a week there. You have found your constant holiday destination. Next time you should try bob sliding we call it to make a Gockel. One person lay down on the bob like they do on a skeleton and the other person sit on top of it and than lets go down the hill. Accidents may happen but its just snow. And have you built a snowman with Willa ? Is she excited about snow ? Adia does kzbin.infoq_NzBNRiTpA There many others of her skiing just 3 years old. You have to watch some vids. How was the tirolian food ? They are well known for bread, cheese and ham but also for italian pasta. Dont go for pizzeria just look for Gasthaus or Gasthof sort of restaurants. I am sure you realized they speak german as well. A big advantage for you, an american tourist who speaks german. More doors will be open for you. Wish your parents an unforgetable time visiting you ! Btw, asperagus season started, still expensive, but as I remember you also tried white asparagus here first time. With cooked potatoe, scrambled eggs and ham(westfalian style) and asparagus, delicous.

Italy in most outsiders' eyes is the milder regions, except for those who are interested in mountaineering or winter sports, for the most part. I'm Turkish and I've been to Sicily in October and it was perfect, but I would not be able to bear it in summer as I am more adept to cold. I'd like to explore the cold North of Italy as well, hopefully with a lot of snow.

The Italians living in the region there were mainly settled there by Mussolini in the 1930s after the former Austrian areas between Brenner and Lake Garda were awarded to Italy after the First World War. Mussolini attempted compulsory Italianization, which he only succeeded in doing in Bolzano. Today, South Tyrol and the surrounding area offer a perfect symbiosis between the positive sides of the Tyroleans and Ladins with their culture and a part of the Italian dolce vita and the Italian-Tyrolean cuisine. In fact, an outstanding area - almost a paradise on earth.

So interesting to see some different points of view about whether or not this is the true Italy. It definitely is a different region compared to Palermo or Rome, or Florence, but we love it regardless.
@chavbristol2793
@chavbristol2793 2 жыл бұрын
@@OurStorytoTell Yes that's right. But the Italy of Palermo is no longer to be found north of Rome. The country is very diverse and that is what makes it so interesting. Incidentally, this applies to many European countries, including Germany. In Italy, what is special about South Tyrol is recognized by the fact that it is an autonomous province with extensive powers to shape itself. Nobody will want to go and detach the territory from Italy anymore. This was not undisputed until the 1960s ("Bumser"). A renewed revival of demands for a secession from Italy would at best be possible if a right-wing government were to take office in Rome again and want to break away from the EU. South Tyrol would definitely not go along with that and go back to Austria.

@@OurStorytoTell hi Guys! You are totally correct, but what they will never admit is that these mountains have always been inhabited by Italian populations, for example the population of the province of Trento has always been Italian even if governed by Austria. The Ladins who live in the valleys you have visited are not very Germanic. They also never say that the Germanic peoples arrived in 700 AD. and that before they were inhabited by Roman people, we all know that even then there were wars to take the territory. For me the beauty of these places also comes from the meeting and peaceful coexistence of these three cultures, otherwise we will be talking about a normal German village or a normal Italian village.

South Tyrol is NOT Italy!
@libertaslibertas5923
@libertaslibertas5923 4 ай бұрын
It is..and the ladin valleys including gardena and badia are ethnically and linguistically closer to the rest of italy than they are to austria. In fact the autoctonous population (the ladins) come from the romans and not from the germanics. And the autoctonous language (ladin) is a romance language and comes from latin. Not from protogermanic. So from an ethnic and linguisitc point of view the ladin valleys must belong to italy and not to austria. And not only they must belong to italy but they must be removed from the province of bolzano and annexed to the province of trento. Or better form their own province of ladinia. And the rest of southtyrol still must belong to italy due to geographical political and historical reasons. Saying it must belong to austria because historically it belonged to austria doesnt make sense. Because it is like saying that Austria can annex slovenia because slovenia historically belonged to austria until 1919 or that russia can annex finland because historically it belonged to russia until 1919. Or that germany can annex alsace lorraine and italy can annex corsica. Saying austria can annex the german ethnic part of southtyro due to ethnic and linguistic reasond l is like saying that germany can annex the german ethnic part of alsace lorraine and italy can annex corsica.
