Feels good to finally see Clem reach something close to his final form. I have been rooting for him for so long that I got used to the idea that he will only be incredibly good from time to time instead of a more consistent manner like Maru. So glad he went beyond that.

Efficiency on Clems side is "only" a consequence, becoming the straw breaking the opponents back. But his sense for position, composition and tatical opportunites, combined with almost instant desicion making and strategy adaption and 99,98% perfect execution is such a treat to watch. Thanks to organizers and caster.

About the tournament: in fighting game this is called “double elimination format”. Means that to be eliminated you have to lose a match twice! If you lose once, you go to loser bracket, lose twice, bye bye. This is why the winner of the winner bracket has to have an advantage, he never got eliminated! But if he loses, now he is on equal terms to do winner of the loser bracket (as if he was sent to the loser bracket too to decide the winner)

Having just one game advantage is actually pretty small if you come from the winner's bracket. In Super Smash Bros tournaments in the finals, the player from the loser's bracket has to win an entire set (usually a best of 7 or 9) just to even things up. And then to win, they would have to win another entire set. So one game advantage for Clem is really minuscule.

Hey Winter! Absolutely love your stuff, and I wanted to chime in about the brackets for competitions: I don't know that it originated in the Fighting Game Community (FGC), but the idea of playing an entire extra best of 3 or 5 during double elimination has strong roots in fighting games. The idea is that, if you go undefeated, and then you lose a 'best of' in the final round, you get sent to the losers bracket just like everyone else. But at that point, everyone else from losers has been eliminated, so you just play the same game again against the current leader of the losers bracket. That's where the 2 'best of' games comes from. I like that way the most, especially for competitive games with double elim, but fighting game rounds are capped out at like 90 or 100 seconds most of the time. Starcraft games are way longer, so I think using a different approach makes a lot of sense. Either way, you mentioned it was confusing, and I wanted to shed some light on why it works that way. Keep up the fucking awesome videos dude!

You guys watching? Despite oliveria having 3 fully saturated bases (66+) and a near maxed supply army 190 / 200, all it took was one engagement to end the game. Hence, once toss is near max supply as well, it's important to have proxy gate or warp prisms to stop the imba terran from a comeback

From watching this, it seems to me like it is Macro that Clem improved upon in order to become this good . He is constantly producing more units than his opponent and even in TvZ , he is almost never behind in terms of supply.

The advantage for winning the winners bracket should be that one of your workers is replaced by an infinite , invincible mule, that mines a percentage faster and can build 1 CC/Nex/Hatch at cost

I think what I'd do to reward the winner of the elimination rounds is put a small amount of the prize pool aside as a "bonus" for the player who doesn't win a match. That way there's a tangible reward for winning every round, but it doesn't impact the actual gameplay of the finals.

I think 0-0 should be the score. Oliveira earned his second chance by winning the losers bracket. Where as Clem knows from the start if he wins all the way through he still has to fight one more player for them to reach that double elimination. I understand the 2 best of fives at the end, since that means that the person who loses was actually eliminated twice, and is probably the most fair way to do it.

The series reset makes the most sense. Why does the person from the lower bracket get to lose an entire series and still knock out the upper bracket winner in only one series? That's almost like a disadvantage for being the best player in the tournament. Everyone gets 2 lives. That's fair.

For real though TvT has all the great parts of terran with none of the shitty parts - widow mines and ghosts aren't completely busted, the players have to integrate both bio & mech into their army, units like Thors, BCs, Vikings, Tanks are extremely relevant, you can really feel different player's styles and stretegies too
