Every Wintersun song it's a masterpiece. Love this song, Jari's a genius. I'm allways cutting onions with this one. I think this song it's about his father and the feel of lost.

Lost my grandfather during a cold winter. This song reminds of the isolation I felt and how it completely changed me. I couldn't recognize myself after he passed. Cant listen to this song without crying.
@Patralgan5 жыл бұрын
Hi. I'm very grateful of seeing this reaction and review. The song is incredibly special to me, I am a very lonely person (as in I don't feel like belonging to this world and I connecting with others is difficult) so it speaks to me. Musically it's about everything I want from a song and more, each note and riff is so thoughtfully put together and the singing and growling parts are just crushing with emotion and delivery. It's not just a song.. well it is, but not like most others. It's one of those very rare songs that can make me cry. I can't verify it, but I remember reading somewhere that Jari (the mastermind behind Wintersun) isolated himself for quite some time to get into proper mindset to be able to make this incredible emotional vocal performance. Also I love how the song PERFECTLY encapsulates winter in its soundscape. It's beautiful, can be peaceful, but also very harsh and obviously cold. An interesting fact: Jari hates winter with passion and loves summer, so he's the same as me in that aspect. Now, I highly recommend you to react to Eternal Darkness (Autumn), I think it ties to this song like it's about dying and death (not only the nature [autumns are usually very dark in Finland], but the human experience also) and Loneliness (Winter) is what comes after that, the mourning and regret. These two songs are actually my all time favorites and nothing tops them. They are very different but somehow complement each other in my opinion. Whereas Loneliness is slow, beautiful and bright (like a sunny winter day), Eternal Darkness is fast, brutal and very dark. Its lyrics are definitely the Jari's best and there's so much to analyse there.

Guys ! You really did another Wintersun song !! Thank you so much. Probably their most melancholic song. Jari is a brilliant musician and truly one of a kind. They say real grown men don't cry. I learned something about myself with this song. This is the most emotional song I know and it releases something within me I didn't know existed. That's Jari's magic. No one does what he does. I too dealt with my fair share of loss. It got me to the absolute edge. And I believed I was desensitized to it. The first time I heard this song it all returned. In a way this song helped me really deal with my own experiences. And yes, grown men do cry. Even the stubborn ones.

Why Finland produce so many great metal bands!? )) Great music! )
@wardeni96035 жыл бұрын
Because in Finland winters are long and cold and we get lonely, Autumns are dark and depressing, Springs are unpredictable and Finns start to wake up from the seasonal depression, and summers are a time of light and happiness, when even the sun doesn't properly set for months, instead hanging in the horizon at night. Then we pour all those emotions into the music we make. Practically every single family in Finland has at least one musician, many have multiple. For example in my Family both my parents can play stringed instruments, my one brother plays the Bass and the other plays guitar, my sister plays piano and I play multiple instruments. And band activity is something that the Finnish state supports rather heavily, with even music classes at school usually having the classic drums, bass, guitar and keyboards available for students to use. When it's -30 degrees Celsius outside and there's a metre of snow, and you only have a couple hours of daylight, there's not much else to do than to pick up an instrument or engage in some other form of art.

Jari's genius is undeniable. Along with Tuomas from Nigthwish, I would be content to just listen to only their music for the rest of my life. Yeats used the term "terrible beauty" in his poem about the Easter Rising in Dublin in 1916, and it perfectly describes how I view Jari's/Wintersun's music--it's so beautiful that it's almost excruciating, if that makes any sense. Sort of sad that you guys, if i remember correctly, were at a Wintersun show where you left after NEO's set, where they did play this song along with the whole new record and a few other songs. I seem to remember there was no seating and Sori was understandably tired being at a metalshow pregnant and you guys had limited time to realistically spend at the venue so you guys left after NEO who you actually were there to see. I think they most likely will come back to NA after the next album (if that ever happens) so you should get another chance to see them live. Definitely worth it, i saw them live a few months back for the 5th (or 6th) time, still as good as ever especially the 1st album stuff. @Dylan Powell True. Remember the times when Opeth played progressive/melodic, but still Death Metal? Do you remember the growl? And how do you find their latest album "In Cauda Venenum"? To me it's 10/10. It's got nothing to do with the music they played 15 years ago, but I love it. It's called progression... and it's happening to us. Our musical taste expands with time to, sometimes, new territories, but we never forget who we really are and what our roots have grown of. Mostly, I listen to Black/Death Metal bands, but Marillion, Camel, Dream Theater or Soen are very welcome guests in my house. Cheers and good night (it's 11:05 p.m. here) PS.
