My grandparents lived in Oak Ridge as I was growing up back in the late 90s to early 2000's. I could ride my bike down to an old radio station and watch trains run behind there. There was also a tunnel between Elza gate and Dossett yard that my grandpa and I would walk to. The tunnel was very close to his house. It would be the normal to hear probably 30 or more trains a day, mostly coal trains to the Bull Run plant. We would spend hours at the plant watching trains come in. They also still had the spur line that went into Oak Ridge. Unfortunately as you said in the video Bull Run has been shutdown now and I usually am only passing through Oak Ridge now but still take about an hour to hope to see a train. Although I haven't been lucky the past few times I've been through I still hold out hope. A few months ago went down to the Edgemore signals just to walk around and remember the good times. And found me two pieces of coal as a keepsake. Of course my grandparents are gone now but the memories of growing up in the summer there I'll always cherish. Great video. Thanks.

Since my father and grandfather worked the K D subdivision. I really enjoyed your video and now have watched several other videos. Very well edited and even with a little goofing off in them. Much better than watching some of the clowns I have seen. You train knowledge is impressive. Much better than someone who knows a little and acts like they are an expert. Hope you get back to Knoxville again. My new hometown.

Well, I appreciate that quite a lot. I’ve always tried to include the goofs since they make up a lot of why a trip or outing is so enjoyable. It’s very nice to hear that they fit fairly well with the rest of the contents. Like I said on Day 5, I think I’ll be back up in that area, perhaps this upcoming June or July, aiming to see one of those coal trains for Bull Run before they shut down. I’d be more than happy to work something out when the time comes, and again, Thank You👊🏼

Just watched all of this. Great production work! I attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville from 2013-2017, and I wasn't really as much of a railfan as I am now. I so do wish I would have checked out the many trains of Knoxville sooner.

Great Video! Those International IM cars on that NS manifest are actually converted to Trash containers, headed back empty to Massachusetts on the Pan Am Southern. Not sure which train carries them down that far south, although it *might* be 15/16T (that's what it used to be at least)
@RiverLineProductions Жыл бұрын
The IM/mixed train is I believe 288/289 between Rossville, TN and Allentown, PA. It has since been broken up into 13/14Z and 288/289 with the manifest going on that first pair, however in December it was still combined

CSX E738's hopper cars in this video look very different from the ones we see in Baltimore MD on the CSX empty coal trains that goes up the CSX Old Mainline Subdivision in Maryland
@kotabeaner Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it turns out that 738 actually originated in South Carolina somewhere. The routing I got was off the trainsymbols website, but I realized shortly after that the routing itself made no sense in regards to where we saw it. Apologies for the confusion.

A good chunk of those unit coal trains run on an As Needed basis from what I understand. I know this since that's how a lot of unit trains are typically
@kotabeaner Жыл бұрын
All of them run on an ‘As Needed’ basis. All unit trains do. Though the productivity or lack thereof around a power plant will determine how often they’re needed.
@metronorthrailfan2244 Жыл бұрын
@@kotabeaner ah. Alright. That makes sense since their supply dictates how often they need a unit train
