I bought a 1940s suit that fit my exact measurements. It had underarm gussets and the freedom of movement was AMAZING.

The wonderful KZbin algorithm led me to your channel! I am so excited about seeing much more content from you! Watch out Bianca, Rebecca, Drew, Hayley Marie, Rachel, Stephanie Canada, Kristina, and Serena, there's a new kid on the block! Just kidding, they are also vintage KZbinr sewer/community and very welcoming to those who share their vintage sewing enthusiasm. Several of them get together when they can and post videos about going to estate sales & flea markets, CosPlay conventions,and on vintage train trips, etc. I wish we could all get together and have one big slumber party! I truly enjoyed your video (including your precious dog!) You are obviously an accomplished sewer as evidenced by your gussets, various techniques and your pattern adaption. I also enjoyed your creative Christmas tablecloth artistic creation! You really inspired me; I can hardly wait to find Christmas tablecloths in my thrift store for next Christmas' dress. I also really enjoyed your trip to the flea market! It is so cool to see you twirl and frolic in public with abandon! Can't wait to see what's next!

Oh this is so sweet!! Thank you for watching and for welcoming me to the vintage KZbin sewing community ❤ I’m so glad I could inspire someone to make a dress out of a table cloth, that’s what I came in here to do! 🎉

I feel you on the re-threading of the serger. If it's not going to show, I use whatever is on there at the time. BUT, for future reference: my grandmother taught me a trick years ago - cut the thread at the cone, tie on the new color, and run until it changes the thread itself. (Doesn't help if a thread breaks or gets pulled out, but it's great for changing colors.)
@kimharrison83806 ай бұрын
This is an excellent method and one I use, just put your tension at 0 while the threads come all the way through for success.
@TwirlinTime6 ай бұрын
Yes! I’ve used this method too! I always think it’s going to take longer than it actually does haha

I have a little tip for you about the bra straps. I actually learned this from one of my vintage shirts, you can attach snaps attached to a string on the inside that hold your bra strap. It’s very simple to do and it is a game changer! ❤ love the dress btw. My husband found a bunch of vintage patterns and one was a dress very similar I’ve made a shirt for it but not the dress etc I haven’t had enough of the right fabric to do it yet. But your and the color on you is gorgeous ❤

Just discovered you, thanks yt for the suggestion. It came out beautifully! The ribbon fabric on your first dress is amazing! Also, hairspray will remove ink stains, Aqua Net works great. Saturate the stain with hairspray. May take several applications. It will dissolve the ink.

If you’re starting out I’d recommend the thrift store! It takes some patience and luck, but you can find inexpensive patterns and fabric to practice with (including curtains, sheets and actual lengths of fabric) to build your confidence, then you can move on to fabric from the fabric store. Marshall Fabrics and Fabricland both of great options and helpful staff!
