Started from an unknown college in Uttar Pradesh, but with a great passion in coding since early childhood (not coming from a privileged background so less face-time with computers) completed electrical engineering in 2012 (was pressured into pursuing electrical instead of CS by family because of government job prospects) Worked for an year 2012-2013 at 2L CTC Studied to crack GMAT and GATE, did both (2013) but as luck would have it - didn't pursue GATE M. Tech. but enrolled in MBA through GMAT in a Tier 2 college (turns out GMAT requires work experience too, to be more potent). Couldn't take a drop year or continue the job (family pressure). Had offers from good international universities with scholarship but family/relatives scared me into not joining them (cost was too high) In 2013 enrolled for MBA to finish it in 2015 with an education loan on my head (15L including P+I) Got placed by college in an awful job but had to take that due to family pressure and loan in 2015 at 5.5L CTC (in Indore) Didn't like the job so left it in 2 months without telling my family and came to Delhi to take up a dead-end job with Big 4 in 2015 at 3.5L CTC Worked with Big 4 until 2018, last drawn salary was 4.5 L CTC (had to manage loan + living alone in a city which wasn't my hometown) In that time, studied my ass off and went back to my passion of computer programming, networked with people and took projects outside of my usual work. Switched jobs in 2018 to a consulting firm as a data scientists (finally) after 100s of interviews at 9L CTC That company went bankrupt so had to move to a startup within 6 months (2018) where I worked for less than a year at 7.5L CTC Moved to a great company in 2019 with all the efforts and the diverse experience I had accumulated (finished my loan) at 10L CTC Worked my ass off in that company until 2022, left at 25L CTC - created a brand for myself in the market, had meteoric growth. They were ready to retain me at 40L CTC. Had created a niche for myself in the market when I switched and now sitting in India with $200k (50-50 in-hand + equity) ~ 85L fixed CTC

Hey, if I still can't understand the maths and research papers after trying ml for 4 years, should I switch to data Engineering? Or is there some niche where understand the math is not that important but scaling and deploying the models is?
@thesilversapphire
@thesilversapphire Жыл бұрын
@@dingding4898 If you have more experience with ML instead of building, scaling and maintaining robust data pipelines, a better bet would be to look for ML Engineering roles which requires one to operationalise, deploy, scale, maintain and govern ML models (MLOps), instead of creating one. This role has more promise than a traditional data scientist role going forward.

Don’t get too carried away…IITans are extremely good at trying to show themselves as relaxed and casual but everything that they do is all behind the scenes…case in point my own brother…I think they get this attitude because of the competition they face since +1 …they appear to be relaxed even after like studying all night and all day 😂😂😂. Many of them that I’ve seen are very humble too…they are groomed so perfectly in those 4 years that one can see the differences so clearly

Nice conversation. This IIT vs Non-IIT conversation recently has taken a worng turn. Entering into an IIT itself is a proof of someone's hard work, consistency and intelligence. This doesn't mean that others are not. But if one has to select there has to be a way to judge. Just like when you hire a chef you would prefer someone who has actually done something worthwhile. The great thing is that in technology there are many ways to work and prove your value.

8:00 bro defined my whole life goal. Just leading a happy life for yourself is really easy. But when you have a goal to impact the world, it's really really hard to do and you need a lot of money for that. Saying that IITians have a "privilege" is a bad characterization. They go through the toughest competitive exam and prove their mettle against millions of other students and then go through a grueling 4 year curriculum which is far superior to any other engineering college in India. Those who couldn't make it through the system should not call it "privilege". It would have been privilege if they got in because of their family name or money power or political connections, but none of that works for IIT entrance. Those who call it privilege are just jealous.

@@jagadeeshgurana4490 I am not the one who owns this channel...from mature I don't mean being mature in a literal way..what I meant was having an understanding of industry and the market and how things function... the reason why india would never be a real global power because we glorify iit and high paying jobs too much rather than skillset and an excellence , so if the youth will be focussed on being a high paid servant how he /she can innovate , not saying this out of jealousy or anything but i have been to several developed countries we are way behind than them .

Also there is a slave mentality that comes from top down where the culture is work extra hard, sacrifice personal life and continue the process. Looking down at those who want to stick to work hours only. I have worked in canada and usa and the companies with mostly indian staff is super toxic, slave minded. And the end result is people are super fake and upset. This results in poor quality work.

I went to a tier 3 engg college in interior Maharashtra that had 1 computer for every 20 kids. Lot of my classmates are now C suite executives, VPs, EVPs of large Silicon Valley companies. Ex CIO of Tesla, who is a good friend of Elon lives in my neighborhood. He went to university of Madras. I can give so many examples. I really think it’s a waste of time to burn yourself out to crack some exam just to brag you went to IIT

One correction about Polgar Sisters. The energetic IITan said 3 of them becamse Grandmasters so we can't say it's because of Nurture or Nature. Polgar actually took this into account and married a mediocre IQ woman and he had mediocre IQ too. He did that to prove that it's definitely not because of genetics or "Nature". So it was purely because of Nurture!

I am an MBA in HR. I feel there is a lifelong disparity between the Ivy league( XLRI, MDI kind) grads and the rest like me. There is also this preference for women in HRBP roles. Recruitment, HR shared services and people analytics are still agnostic to Gender and institute u graduated from. However, for roles like Talent strategy, HRBP, Talent development, ER etc. its so depressing to be discriminated as a non ivy league male member of HR community. This is the state even after a decade long association with popular Tech firms as an HRBP( I did mba from Icfai Hyd). My sorrow here is that unlike technology the disparity is perennial and only a 2 yr mba from Ivy league can offset it..which is practically impossibl to crack ☹️

Following is from my experience in an interview with a top engineering firm in India. A question is asked to a non IITian and he answers the question from engineering point correctly but is not confident and has lots of "I think" in his sentences. IITian does not know the engineering answer to the same question. He makes up a question similar to the question asked and answers it correctly with confidence. IITian gets selected! I believe it is because non-IITian was not confident in expressing his thoughts. Of course, this is just an example and am sure there are many confident non IITians too.
