Ukraine has lost over 40 per cent of the territory it previously gained in Russia's Kursk Oblast due to Russian counterattacks, Reuters reported on Nov. 23, citing a source in Ukraine's General Staff. As Russia's attempt to take back Kursk continues to progress, Russia has also intensified its attacks along the eastern front in recent weeks, putting Ukrainian forces under mounting pressure as they struggle to defend key positions. Russian forces have captured the town of Novodmytrivka, located in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine. This location is crucial to the potential success of the offensive on Kurakhove. Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that on the Kurakhove front, which spans 620 miles, intense fighting is occurring, and 35 clashes have been recorded in the past 24 hours. The Russian military has destroyed another Soviet-made MiG-29 fighter jet of the Ukrainian Air Force (UAF) in the Dnepropetrovsk region. The MiG-29 was refueling and loading armament on the ground at the Dnipro International Airport when it was struck with an Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile with a fuel-air explosive enhanced-blast warhead. Video footage of the strike was posted to social networks on November 23. The missile strike destroyed the fighter jet and left some 15 officers and engineers of the UAF dead or wounded. Russian forces currently liberated about 20% of Ukraine. The two-year offensive in the Donetsk region is now progressing the fastest since March 2022.
