That is one thing I'm also afraid of myself to be honest. I have many other reasons as well for not wanting children, but I considered, what if me or my partner were to die while the child was young? I cannot place that burden on the child. Sure, the child can get adopted or if only one partner goes, they can remarry, but what about the emotional burden of losing a parent? I have MANY and I mean MANY friends around me who are still 19-20 years old who have lost one of their parents, and the entire family had to be working to manage surviving since as students, there's so many hours of work they can do, and the rest goes to studying and school. It is extremely tough

Also it's damn tough to bring up a child properly. Till 25 one works on their issues, studies n starting a career then boom baby comes n next 20 years of your life will be all about that child. People have to manage their career, play the role of a parent etc. When would be she/he get time to be all by herself. This is clearly called being overworked which leads to anxiety depression. Even worse if there's no much understanding or love between husband n wife. These days there a lot of divorces

The 8-hour/day work model is designed when only one parent is working. If governments now want to maintain healthy fertility rate in their countries, they can start by reducing working hours. This can spillover into employing more people too. The mental health of millions of adults and children can be improved.

We all had different professions, worked full-time, got degrees part-time, we all had our difficulties and made a few errors along the way. But the sheer joy of hearing a child's laughter, and the intriguing delight of watching them grow into becoming themselves is an experience I would have hated to miss! Being pregnant isn't fun. until you reach your mid 30's and start to realize that you want to have kids and it's too late - if that's the path you choose, good for you, and go for it - but look into what comes next, get the details about people who don't have kids, especially women, and look to your future. The option to adopt is there, but most people will never take it But, to all the childless couples out there, remember that when you're old, you'll have no family, only friends, no memories and nothing to drive you to work harder and be better for the generation you could be raising up - and that you're taking from society and not giving back - and as your numbers grow, your decision is simply dooming mankind

In the US, many millennials are dealing with crushing debt from student loans, higher costs of living, low pay but increasingly demanding workload, and difficulty accessing health care, especially child care. Also, many of us American millennials came from dysfunctional homes and knew at least one person whose parents had a nasty divorce. Becoming more than just a reproductive machine, I think this can bring a massive change in the world and especially in India because just see how most of our Indian parents life were, they say that they had many hardships and all they wanted was to get a government job. When there is so much trouble in life, I really don't know from where the question of having so many children come to our grandfather's mind. First of all we should create a supportive and conducive environment for the future generations and then bring them into the world so that they live such a life that we couldn't imagine possible. In India we have grand temples but not good toilets, it time we make the world a great place to live so that going to heaven will be of no value. I'd add a few points here: - Having children is a LOT of work! Most people are exhausted with their routines already... - Having a job is not an option for women, it's a need... we need the money to sustain ourselves and, even for couples, one salary is not enough to sustain a family (even if the guy is a good husband)
@bobjacobson858
@bobjacobson858 2 жыл бұрын
I believe the fact that there are many two-salary couples means the average family income, and thus purchasing power, is being increased, and thus prices go up, particularly for housing, making it more difficult for many one-salary couples to afford it. I suspect (and hope) you really meant "... even if the guy is a good PROVIDER". Some 'good husbands' don't have high earnings, and some wealthy husbands are not necessarily good.

The first time I realized having kids made no sense was when I witnessed my coworkers getting yelled at by supervisors every day for not breast pumping fast enough during their lunch break. The poor women would barely have time to eat their lunch and they would have to breast pump in a nasty bathroom stall that was never cleaned. This was also nightshift, so lunch was at 2 AM. No one should be yelled out for trying to provide milk for their child during their own lunch break.

@@Anni3ization I am not blaming the woman I am just saying she is putting herself in a risky situation because she has a husband that clearly demonstrated that he isn’t able to protect her and she has an employer she was in no position to fight against. Women like that are vulnerable and often become single moms, so it’s always worth thinking ahead of time for women what kind of backup they have before they put themselves in positions like that. The world is a cruel place sadly and a lot of pregnant women are vulnerable to that. A lot of women need to have exceptional resumes and a cushy savings account (that nobody should know about) before deciding to get pregnant. This woman clearly didn’t and she suffered for years after that incident.

My husband and I are moving with our first child to a super small town, purchased 118 acres which cost us the same amount as an apartment in the city. Cheaper, a good community, less social media presence, fear and pressure. Simplicity. It's a big move but we decided we needed to get back to the basics for our health and sanity. We want our children to be raised with work ethic, manners, community values and basic life skills so they dont have to rely on others. We will grow our own food, raise and respect our animals. City living is just dreadful now. No one cares about their neighbors, everyone runs on fear, trying to keep up with the Jones. No one can tolerate a difference of opinion or have intelligent, cilivilized conversation. It's very sad. It's not working for us so we are changing it. Happiness is out there.

Same, I have not wanted kids since I was 13. Im now 34 still no children and have no plans to ever have kids. They are too expensive, education is spotty, politics is entering the education system, and inflation is going crazy. Why on earth would I make my life harder just to have kids? I can barely afford myself I have rehome all my pets and I am single. I have eliminated everything possible to increase my free cash and its not enough. I have no life, I can barely afford gas AND groceries... it would literally be a crime for me to have a child right now. I'd be homeless. I have no sympathy for woman that were stupid and didn't take better care to not get pregnant. Yes I'm shading all those single mothers that got pregnant by their BF and he left. Seriously! Be more careful. I feel for all the divorced mothers but again still don't have much sympathy I saw this crazy world we live in coming way back in 2013... and made sure I wouldn't be anchored down financially by a child. While I normally enjoy Palki's segments, I was a little disappointed that the entire segment seemed to focus only on the role of women in dropping birth rates. Men are having a huge impact on birth rates by losing interest in marriage and even intimate relationships. The percentage of sexless men and women has also been increasing over the past several years. If many men and women aren't satisfied with the state of modern dating and relationships, that needs to be addressed before we even begin to think about bringing children back into the equation.

If those conditions are met I will likely go ahead if not then I wont.. Your point is valid but I know some people who tell themselves and others that they do not want kids even though they would if they had a choice. They say they don't want kids because it makes them feel better about the real reason (life/money/age/lack of partner). Just as an example.. a random woman substitutes having a family with a carrier/ single lifestyle because she thinks it is more fulfilling after a while she realizes that she wants kids but now it is too late because she has hit the wall and is now in her 30s..

I moved from Germany (1,53 reproduction rate) to Netherlands (1,57 reproduction rate) and personally do not have kids but can see that NL has a lot more child friendly policies, while Germany has long struggled to take kids and young families serious. Just 1-2 generations ago a man would spent most of his life working for one company and he would earn enough for his wife to stay at home and raise 2 or more kids but the number of jobs that can actually feed an entire family has gone done and most people have 2-3 jobs to make ends meet. I agree with your female perspective of better education resulting in less kids, but the low wages and constant job changes also lead to great insecurity. A lot of men are not confident enough anymore that they can actually afford a family. And this was before the pandemic.

Better education results in less kids?? She did not said that. The lack of education is the problem. Let's not compare with times or places when and where women had/have no choice, no contraception, rapes, not allowed to work, not allowed to study.

@@alifc1082 Indeed there is studies that academics tend to have less. children, that is a fact. The better educated the more knowledge about the difficulties and thus less likely to have kids. Plus career is more important often as well.

I always wanted to be a mother. It was a very strong inner urge in me. Not everyone has it. But if someone has it, it's very difficult for them to live without having children and it's harder for them to be happy or accept it if they don't have children. For me it was more of an emotional decision with counting with facts too. But the negative things could not have been able to prevent me from having kids.

Considering the extreme overpopulation problem that the world is currently facing which is still climbing, and the rapid depletion of our resources caused tby this, the dropping birth-rate, and lower future population estimates, should be considered a GOOD THING!

It is more than an opinion, as time flows lower birth rates means obviously less and less people are born. Countries care because this affects their ability to be a productive nation, their ability to protect themselves through military. Also more globally it is the species survive. Yes this doesn't effect you or I but as time moves on and the rate continues to decline. So as we see now with older generations that had more children as they age there are more elderly with not enough youth to support the aging population as time goes on it will become more of a problem. The marriage thing is a social issue and not really a factor but the birth rates is an issue. Also due to chemical exposure to the world's population to plastics many women and men can not produce children. So as the number of infertile people grows and the number of people choosing not to have children where does that leave our species

@@aceaplus Throughout the history of a planet there has been hell lot of creations and destruction of species happening... And humans have been always wanting to discover, improvise and invent newer things and technologies that doesn't mean that we're immortal... Humans have evolved in a way that they're at the top of the pyramid - they're animals with emotions and rational thought so unlike other species we cannot jus take things in terms of reproduction rate and the prospect of species continuity... There are a good proportion of the human species willing to reproduce and sustain life on planet and of course if the species is going towards lack of sustainability or regression that is natural too and in case of humans the cause could be a result of a conscious decision not to reproduce... For the sake of species continuity I strongly disagree that we should force people to marry or reproduce. Above all if the human race finds it's end by people choosing not to reproduce then let it... Chill...Evolution will have it's course!
