Aiming to update my old Yavin video with the full sequence, this time using Blender, it just renders so much faster than Lightwave but just have relearn modelling and animating in it.

What's the giant hole at the Death Star's North Pole? I swear I've seen it before many years ago.

Hmmm I would guess some kind of exhaust. The only reference I've found for it is was from Rogue One documentaries. Will plug it up for the wide shots, its unlikely I'll be using any close ups for the actual Yavin remake video.

It's the main exhaust port. Recall the mission briefing from the film: "You are required to manoeuvre straight down this trench and skim the surface to this point. The target area is only two meters wide. It's a small thermal exhaust port, right below the main port." The idea is this one secondary exhaust port is the one tiny flaw in the station's design. The main port is either too well defended or wouldn't set off the chain reaction they're looking for.

​@@AtopLeap There were actually about 12 secondary exhaust ports. The flaw put in by Galen Erso was to make the reactor unstable, and lead to a chain reaction which would destroy the entire station; "The reactor module, that's the key. That’s the place I’ve laid my trap. It’s well hidden and unstable. One blast to any part of it will destroy the entire station.". He probably thought the rebels would sneak in a bomb or something, not lob a proton torpedo down a ray shielded exhaust port using the force. EC Henry has a great video explaining it in more detail.

The model has two - one at the top and bottom. It's where they stick the pole in to hold it up in front of the camera, but star wars fans being autistic beyond reason, didn't understand that.

For the moment a 5950 16 core Amd 32gb and a 3090 RTX. Will eventually get another RTX to speed up the renders, one RTX renders faster than the 16 core AMD. With both rendering in tandem saves me alot of time. The original Yavin video took over a month on and off to render on a 980ti and a i7 3770k
