Often when it's raining or snowing, it is overcast and the amount of available light is greatly reduced. When these conditions are present, the lights should be activated on your vehicle. By turning on your headlights, the taillights also activate. When the taillights are on, vehicle behind you can see your vehicle.
In the rain especially, the spray coming off the road can hide your vehicle and make it nigh impossible to see if the lights are not on.
Therefore, when your windshield wipers are on, turn your headlights on to be seen.

here in the southern states it is the law! My headlights are always on, I turn them on automatically when I start any vehicle I am in, I don't forget the lights anymore because I automatically turn them off...years and years of driving!

Hi Ladonna - yes, many states are the law for wipers and lights, which I believe is a good thing. Like you, I too turn on my lights whenever I get into a vehicle - it is a good habit for professional drivers. Thanks Cheers Rick

always have them on in rain, it’s state law here in TN. My lights turn off automaticly when i open the drivers door and the engine is already off, So i just leave the switch in the on position.
