This is part 1 of 3 on applying bark to a wire armature tree. It's a learning experience for me/us since this technique is still new to me.
I discuss problems I have along the way plus ideas on how it could have been improved.

Looking forward to the third installment and to things you have discovered. I can tell you that the first step of glue gives penetration providing more rigidity and stableness of the trunk, To get glue to stick quickier and easier give a quick mist of flat primer. There are a host of things you can cover with to deplet the wire wrapping look and depending on the final texture you wish, you could add a bit of very fine saw dust and a spray of wet water for gap filling, you can even use liquid electrical tape for a great quick covering. I use durhams water putty, elmers, dish detergent, saw dust, tempura for most tree projects that are rough bark. This makes a carvable finish that is flexiblish and durable.

Those are great ideas. Knowing what I know now, I would skip the glue application entirely. I really don't see it adding a big benefit. I'm likely to Daas putty for bulking out areas next time. The saw dust is a cool idea, especially for trees that have flaking bark.

Always envision you tree as a wine glass as the stem is the trunk and the shattered glass as the top with its branches. Get yourself a external drive with a dock to off load projects to. Great 👍🏻 video mike .

I have several external drives I use as back ups but they are all pretty small. I have 4 internal drives but the SSD's I edit on are small 750 gb combined. I'd love to get a bigger SSD but I can't afford it. :( Saying all of that, if I fill my main SSD then it really means I should be editing instead of shooting. :)

Huh. When I first got into miniature terrain...like...7 years ago now (before I found your channel) I saw something not too unlike the bark mixture being used exactly for a protective layer on foam terrain. It included silicone caulk and used dollar store acrylic paint instead of tempura. The youtuber I learned this from specifically said there were no set proportions and would often change things up as needed depending on how thinned out he wanted it for the application (via adding water) or maybe even adding stuff like sand for a texture if I can remember correctly.

That makes sense. I've seen some previous modelers make mixes with caulking.

Love it, your as mad as a box of frogs, I do the same with my projects I don't stop when I should and keep going until it's finished or as my wife says "the long way round". :)

Instead of Greenstuff (which is not cheap) I use DAS air dry clay to smooth out the trunk and branches.
