Only observation from me- why do you wrap your tape in a manner against the twist of the wire nut. That could loosen up your connection. Always wrap CW around the wires and connector, not CCW.
@RightOnJonCrane
@RightOnJonCrane Жыл бұрын
Right On! 🙌 thanks for watching! That wire nut should be nice and tight. If the pressure from wrapping the tape were to spin the wire nut off then the wire nut is way too loose.

I have a ground bare copper wire that i have to extend for the electrical panel; how do I install irreversible crimp for bare copper? What tool and parts do I need?

I have a 50A subpanel that is only 120V, so fed by hot, neutral and ground. I need to split the hot #6 into two wires for the two main lugs. There is no wire nut for 3 #6 wires. If I were to use a split bolt that allows 3 wires or splicing in the middle of the wire, if it's inside a panel, does it have to be wrapped to the extent that you did, or will several layers of electrical tape suffice? Or is there another way to accomplish this?

Are the rectangular lug type acceptable for connecting copper to aluminum, assuming they are rated for both metals, like AL9CU ? The product descriptions say good for copper or aluminum, but they don't say if it is OK for having both metals connected to either end of the same lug. I have seen a few comments that this is acceptable and one that it is not. You were the only video I have found so far to even mention these, so thanks. Your comments have nudged me a little in the direction of the split bolts though.

From my unfortunate experiences I've learned that pretty much all stranded wire needs to be wiggled after it has been tightened, this will set the strands in place. Just wiggle the wires in place, tighten, and repeat that about 3-4 times or more, and this will always give you a nice long lasting connection. Not sure how it works with split bolts but whenever I am using mechanical lugs I will bend and wiggle from side to side, then retighten at proper torque specs. I've had to learn from experience to always do this when using mechanical lugs or polaris taps. It's also good to check for the amp rating of your lugs and taps to make sure they can handle the load you're working with as well. Some of these can get really hot under heavy loads.

You can but that is uncommon. It would most likely have to be a 20 amp circuit but there are not many instances I can think of where that occurs.

Right On! 🙌Thanks for watching! If it’s in an area with high vibration like a motor it’s a good idea! Believe me I’ve worked in the trade a long time and I’ve opened up j boxes and loose wire nuts hit the floor. It all depends on what the situation is and what level of work you want to do. This is a good method. 👍
