The technique for bending the wire cleanly between the handles of the pliers is neat.

Brilliant. I made mine out of bicycle spokes, leaving the threaded ends on. When assembling it, I made sure to have one threaded end at each entry point into the tubing. That gives a little added friction that helps hold the assembly together. I figured out which pair of opposing non-threaded ends were easiest to remove and marked those to make it easy to remove them and fold the stand up flat without taking anything else apart. I wanted a stand about 2 inches (51 mm) high, so I made the bends 23 mm from the end instead of 30 mm, and I made the copper tubes about 48 mm long. The completed stand tightly cradles a Fancy Feast-type stove, stabilizing the stove as well as the pot. I'm sure it would work well with other similarly sized stoves. Be aware that it will not work with a tall, skinny pot. The pot needs to be about 5-1/2 inches (64 mm) or larger in diameter to fit the stand.

I LOVE this! I realize that this design can also be done with a single pipe and only two wires, resulting in a super simple and ultralight pot stand that is open on one side!

I love all of the designs and tried to make them close to your specifications in inches using hangers and tubing that fits. They didn't turn out the way I wanted so I have to make some adjustments.

Nice support stands. Maybe you could use spare aluminium sheets from used cans as wind cover. Just glue (autoweld) them to those hinges. Leave few millimeters on top as air outlet and few millimeter on bottom as inlet. I can see possible problem with those not rigid construction. The weld would be too much tormented and may be torn. But on the other hand it can serve as additional support (if it does not break).

Greeting from Hong Kong. Thank you so much for your sharing, big big help for ultralight backpacker! I'd like to ask why copper pipe is better than aluminium pipe? Look forward to hear you

Hello, What do you think of this idea (for weight reduction): using ball point pen springs instead of copper pipe. As far as I tested, this works just fine, while being very slim. I also tried making coils of the wire itself, but it's way too labour intensive, and less elegant. Here's a picture of the two concepts: lab.hbfx.ro/_stoves/wire-pot-stands.jpg

I think you could even use bicycle spokes with a thickness of 2.0 that goes down to 1.6mm thickness to save some weight such as DT Swiss Competition Race straight pull www.dtswiss.com/Components/Spokes/DT-competition-race-straightpull

+Tim Anderson Thanks for the tip! I will try this. Any idea where to get the copper piping?

Some hardware stores, most if not all industrial or hvac or plumbing supply houses, all home despots and likely all the other big box hardware stores will carry either copper or stainless steel tubing. Likely in the US you will find the closest diameter being a quarter inch ( 1/4" ( 6.35mm) ) and that is the measurement of the outside- all tubing is measured by outside diameter, all pipe is measured by inside diameter. A 2 foot length should cost around 3-5 bucks. Home depot will not have stainless steel, some automotive stores (for brake lines), industrial supply houses, hvac supply houses will. Copper is much easier to work with and copper is also antibacterial, but it can oxidize up fairly easily.

You can also use 1.5mm or 2mm titanium wire, which is very light. I made a stand today that was only 4 grams, based on Tetkoba's "continuous wire" stand at 0:26.
