Hello Terry, just wanted to share this with you and others, I learn to use 2x6 it is cheaper per square ft also less trash, I use the 10ft, cut that to 6ft and 4ft then rip all I need. and the last cage I build I did put those water cups you made a video about. you can see that on the video I made. also left credits to your channel and two other. Just got home from a neighbors....took some PT 2x4 over there to rip for framing another hutch! I have built your all wire growout cages and they worked out well but this hutch will have an enclosed sandbox at one end. I was gonna paint them before assembly but why? If i glue and screw the joints the bare wood would be better! Thanks for the reminder!

Watching your cage build vids I had a thought about using the roll out cage design but using J clips to hinge the rear edge of the floor, and door clips to support the front of the floor at two positions. Level for grow outs with no gap along the front, and dropped for layers with the roll out gap after the birds are too big to slip under it. My thought was for those in very tight living space, one cage, two roles. The layer gap could be used to slip in a half inch mesh floor liner for chicks fresh from the brooder, or even drape a blanket over the cage to use it directly as a brooder? Would love to hear your thoughts Terry. Possibly worthwhile or would the juice not be worth the squeeze?

I do use my layer cages for growing out younger birds. Just close off the egg rollout opening so they can't escape. I use the smaller pool noodles for this . My chicks go on the 1/2" x 1" wire straight out of the brooder at around two weeks of age, I do put down a couple sheets of blue shop towels for them to stand on for a couple days so they can get used to walking on wire.
