The wire rope isolator has been around for quite some time. One of the things to optimizing its isolation is matching the weight of what is being isolated with the stiffness of the wire rope. You can add more loops for higher weight or add loops of a smaller wire to fine tune the weight to stiffness. If feels like the most successful isolators use higher rope count with smaller diameter. The rope or string does not have to be metal. Other materials like weed eater string can be used or other stiff plastics. If you want to drive yourself nuts but get a really good isolator, use thick fishing line. Many loops close together and very, very tunable. Getting the lines even in length and spacing is the sanity testing part. I can't tell you the number of these type of isolators I've used. Hada radar mounted on a C130 and EVERYTHING was on isolators of some kind. Wish you the best of luck and congratulations on you improvements in making these videos. Very good job.

Good work, I just last week "discovered" these isolators using zip tie loops. Had been doing everything under the Sun for vibes. And then the Sun shone. Wire or plastic or, or, or isolators. Thanks for the stabilization idea. Right now that is what I am working on. Back to the shop. Again, good vid and good work!!

Nice, instructive video, I saw first this solution on the Flexacopter two years ago, I never checked it. I don't know if you know but there is one material called Alpha Gel - kinda silicon jelly which beats every existing vibration dampening solution, it's not quite cheap but a very good investment. I built a belt driven gimbal for NEX5 class camera which was suspended on eight compressed pieces of 20x20x10mm of these jelly cubes - it was awesome!

I like the interesting tests you've been doing recently. Another point to mention about dampening is that it's also important that it is not susceptible to shaking induced by air turbulence. That happens with soft earplug dampening. B.t.w., that's a nice looking countryside and neighborhood wherever that is (US or Canada). Either house prices must be relatively cheap there or everybody is loaded in that neighborhood, like brain surgeons, space shuttle pilots, etc.

DJ Kinney You really need engineering data to justify a $10 purchase? Just buy one (or go spend a couple bucks at Home Depot and spend a few minutes to make one) and see if it subjectively improves your video quality. If it does, keep using it. If it doesn't, throw it away.
@brameldm
@brameldm 10 жыл бұрын
If you need the $10 to feed your family in Mexico maybe you should just sell your FPV gear instead.
@brameldm
@brameldm 10 жыл бұрын
It's valid in general, but I think given the cost of this thing relative to the cost of the hobby it's moot. If somebody has done their best to balance everything that spins on their air frame but just can't get it right for whatever reason and this $10 widget gets them the rest of the way to a jello-free video then they'll get more ROI buying one than they will spending more time trying to balance things.

Though this is a good idea, the bracket isn't dampening vibration. What is, is the RUBBER BANDS that your using...
@rctestflight
@rctestflight 10 жыл бұрын
In the first test the isolator was removing vibration with no rubber bands attached. The rubber bands themselves don't isolate any vibration, they just help the wire rope do it better.

Yes it is another expense, but another way to examine vibration is with a strobe light. Not the disco! But,a variable frequency light. On a bench, tethered some how, in semi darkness, one could vary both the RPM of the craft and the light while recording video to find the harmonics, current load, to favor or avoid during flight. It's a type of slow motion. I'd do it Myself, but I can't come up with the cash just now! Know what I mean?
