Well THIS one sure hit home! I'm a former drag racer who loves e-bikes, so this was right up my alley. Yes, the 24" wheels will improve torque delivered to the ground. On dual motor bikes, the power from the rear motor tends to unload wight from the front, making traction worse. BUT, the front wheel doing a burnout still contributes to overall performance, and is better than the front wheel doing nothing. A smooth street tire with a soft compound, and a low tire pressure, will help dual motor launches. I estimate a 0.3 to 0.5 second improvement. Thanks for the awesome video!

Yeah me too, Outlaw 10.5 Monte Carlo back when low 5s in the 1/8th was fast LOL. Got a 96 volt Wired Freedom these days.....its a lot cheaper to run ;-) I have not tried any real 1/8th mile passes yet but did make several runs rolling into the throttle to see what the top end was and the Dragy says it went an 11.10 0-60mph with a 11.85s to the 1/8th lifting
@DanWipperАй бұрын
The 24" tires gave it a 8% reduction in gearing. If the 26" tires couldn't top out in the eight mile then the reduction would help a lot. I'd pick the tire diameter that works best with the track's length which might mean 24s for the eighth and 26" for the quarter? His speedo might be off 8% too? As we know power means nothing if you can't lay it down so put some soft slicks on it, traction is its weak link. I think we could knock a second or two off that time.

The smaller tire diameter on the wired freedom increases the force applied at the ground by the tire, but does increase the torque. The torque is supplied by the motor and is not affected by the tire diameter. Torque is simply force X distance. So if torque is constant, reducing the distance it's applied through (i.e. reducing wheel diameter) increases the force applied. You're essentially gaining leverage. Scissors are a good example of this, the closer the object you're cutting is to the hinge, the easier it is to cut.

It still blows my mind that all these ebike companies keep putting out all these heavy bikes. Hard to work on,hard to load on a bike rack, hard to pull the front tire up to get over a curb and manage in tight places. Most folks that are buying e-bikes are not exactly young to handle this therefore I will still DIY my e-bikes and keep them under 60 lbs with well over 4Kw of usable power.

Simplest way to reduce front tire spin is to put more weight on it, lean forward. OR, buy/build an offset seat post moving the center of gravity forward. However usable offset might be limited due to rider size, handling and geometry. Move the seat 2'' forward and you should see an improvement. A 750 watt motor would be a better match and solve most of the problem.

@roger3958 I used a measuring wheel to get exactly 660 ft and put down chalk lines. Then, I went frame by frame in the editing software to start the clock as soon as the bike started moving forward and stopped as soon as the front wheel crossed the finish line. I bet you were closer to me than you think, maybe even faster, you have a powerful setup!

If you wanna see fast, take the Predator and put a 24" on the rear (where it can use the extra torque....yes the smaller to circumference the greater the torque) and run the softest compound smooth tread front tire. Then as far as the chassis tune...max out the rear shock pressure to extend and harden up the rear suspension and tie down the front to keep weight transfer to a minimum. Pour some pimp juice or track bite on the street and spin the front tire in the puddle....pull forward and you will most likely be able to launch full throttle with no tire spin. You should be able to take at least a second or more off your time.

Personally, I prefer the setup with your front motor kit on a RWD bike. The separate throttle for the front wheel in order to modulate its contribution is fantastic (rather than just a rear-or-all switch), and having a separate battery that can be used as a "reserve" is a bonus (wouldn't help tho' in my case since I've already got a 1Kw motor on the front axle). I'm in Clayton too, and to get to the Greenway and back along with some riding into Wake County means that I'm pedalling a lot in order to not run out of battery before I can make it back up the hill to home. 22Ah/1075Wh doesn't go as far as advertised lol... so the last thing I do *in practice* is brute battery-draining acceleration. Have you looked into using a big direct drive hub with brake regen for your front motor kit? I can see that being useful once the front battery is drained sufficiently to accept the regen recharge. Food for thought, I'd be useful if it could help eke out another mile or two ... Cheers!

I've just built another one with a 2000w 27.5" direct drive hub motor kit, on a Malvern 'Cross' 28" mtb, I've also shunt-modded the 45amp controller and combined with a 52v20ah battery Ive hit 40.7 mph (so far) with it, it really rips, Im loving this 2nd build..I've named this one 'Winston Wolf' 🐺 because of its ability to get to places real quick! 😱 Bryan, it looks like you just sold 100 more Wired Predators. *BUT* a few concerns for us Ebike modifiers and end users: 1. What I'll call Vendor Version Vulnerabilities (when a manufacturer/maker changes model versions VERY OFTEN): A. Continuity of product; B. Availability of parts, and; C. Reliability and sustainability of the released model OVER TIME. 2. User Fatigue & Uncertainty: A. This includes assessment questions like, "Do I purchase now or do I wait a few WEEKS to purchase the "Newer Version" and get that one." (Or "Do I get the Citizens Performance Warp Drive Kit with the inherent ability to upgrade nearly ALL of my family’s Ebikes--then move the kit to other Ebikes when I, THE USER, deem fit? 😁) 3. GeForce Overload & Terrain Tolerance: A. "Will this Version allow me to navigate safely over roads with debris on it--or travel more stealthily off-road to infil or exfil?" B. Especially during a local, regional or national critical incident, "How fast do I really need to go to SAFELY Get-Out-Of-Harms-Way without *peeling the skin off my face*!" 😂 Be obedient to God's Unerring Word, and allow God's Spirit to guide you in EVERYTHING you do. I've reviewed several mid drives in the past they're really not my favorite. they have a lot of torque but there's a lot of Shifting involved and they're not great for acceleration
@DanWipperАй бұрын
YES you'll feel more low end punch on the Freedom, you've lowered the gear ratio, you'll often give up top end but get to it faster. MORE important is how are is Wired recording speed? If it's axial RPM times wheel diameter your speedometer will give you a false high reading. For accuracy use your phone's GPS on all the bikes. How much did you reduce the gearing? 24" x 3.142 equals 75.4" of travel per revolution and 26" x 3.142 equals 81.7". OR, you reduced the gearing about 8%, that's quite a bit and could make the power more usable in most cases. If the speedometer is calculated off RPM its reading 8% high, or, 43-44mph might actually be 40. I could see the trade good for many, better for shorter or heavier people and more fun for most riding. Smaller tires might be bad for long street riding where top end and battery economy are desired. Big tires will also go through soft and rough terrain better.
@DanWipperАй бұрын
Yeah, those knobby tires aren't made for sticking to pavement, they might do better in the grass. Put some street tires on it and see what happens when it sticks.
