I realzed that him just learning the cube and getting under a minute in a few weeks probably means that method just takes a long time to complete, cause my best time was around 30 seconds (and I had a lucky scramble) but my average stays around 45, so while a good starting method its very slow. I think I misread what the convo was about, so sorry if that comments wasnt exactly on subject haha

I used this video to learn to solve the 3X3. It took roughly 2 months. I can now solve in 40-50 seconds. The strange thing is that I no longer remember the algorithms, as it has turned into muscle memory. Great video!

Also it's not always predetermined path. Sometimes you need to get creative and make your own moves. And last, it's so much fun, it really is.

I've competed in a few speed cubing competitions when I was younger and the most impressive solver I have ever seen was this elderly Indian gentlemen at Berkeley. He only did the 2x2 event and his times were not very good, it took him about 2 mins per solve but what amazed me was that he solved it without any algorithms. He looked at the cube and worked out in his head what moves would take him to the solved position. Smart man.

@@RobertBeckk it was such a quick transition for me, I think a week in I was sub 3 minutes. Once I hit 1 minute solves is when I really slowed progress. To get consistent under 1 minute f2l and 2 look just aren't enough for my fingers. It really took me studying oll cases to shave seconds. I still only know about half of them at best.

I learned to solve Rubik's Cube more than 15 years ago with a really old "rusty" cube. I was so hyped that I solved it every day a few times and it took me less than a week to memorize the moves. A few years ago I bought a faster cube but still only able to solve it in a few minutes. I just ordered a "speed cube" and will learn the speed cube method to be able to solve it under a minute or half. Can't wait for it.

I love this video. I haven’t really met anyone else that speed cubes but I’ve been speed cubing for around 10 years now which is a little under half my life. I felt the “kids these days don’t realize how good they have it”. I can buy a really good 3x3 online for $60 or a still really good but cheap cube for $15. Back in the day the only way was to go to Walmart or target, get a crappy rubiks brand, take a dremel to almost all the peices to round all the edges of every price so it could corner cut a little, then dump a whole container of Vaseline in it. When learning all the faster methods that take hundreds of algorithms, this video doesn’t mention that any set of moves repeated enough times will return the cube back to original. And they could have even dipped into all the other shape puzzles. They could’ve shared about 18x18s, cuboids, shape mods, pyriminxs, etc... this hobbie is like no other and people think your a genius when really you just watched some KZbin videos. But being able to solve a cube in under 20 seconds every time is pretty cool to show people

Ah, memories. I played with a cube for a few months some decades ago. Using the Petrus method, because I found it more intuitive as a beginner and I didn't want to memorize too many algos, I got it down to about 20 seconds with my terrible hand dexterity and lack of algos. But if you really want to get faster you need to learn things like Intuitive F2L, 2-Look OLL, and 2-Look PLL just for starters. Also optimize look-ahead, turn speed, and if you don't have a good cube I reccomend the RS3M 2020 or 2021 since it's cheap and very good. (i now average 20s)
