Eureka Espresso Machine Tested and Reviewed

I was pleasantly surprised by Eureka's new line of coffee machines. This is the first of several videos, as I'll be holding onto mine for a few months at least. If you want a compact and competent espresso maker, this is worth a look.

Just my personal opinion, your water temp measurement technique is improvable, group head free flow will always give you higher temp. Anyway thank you for take time to review this machine.

nice brak-down of this.They should offer a kit to raise the machine with taller feet, AND a deeper trip tray. That thing is super small. Back flush and temp reg will fill it up quick! Hope it is better than their grinders.

I mean a flow control valve is an adjustable gicleur so it has uses even if you don't want to do flow profiling. During the extraction the hole size almost doesn't matter (if it isn't almost fully closed). But for preinfusion it controls how fast the chamber will fill. You could restrict flow for longer preinfusion and still hit 9 Bar during extraction, without the need of playing with it after setting it up.

What I'd really like to see is a machine with an easy-to-use external knob for adjusting the expansion valve. Being able to set the maximum pressure for each extraction (depending on the coffee) would be very handy and not so fiddly. Just pop in a blind basket, turn on the pump, and set the knob until you hit the desired max pressure. My machine takes about a dozen screws to access the expansion valve and then a long, fiddly tool to reach it from the top of the case, so it's too inconvenient to change even once per coffee bag

Thanks for the review. It’s seems like a desirable one to have on your kitchen worktop. When you’re in London, will you pay Square Mile Coffee Roasters a visit? (I think James prefers lighter roasts and shorter extractions than you do but I’d still love to hear your opinion about their espresso’s. Just out of curiosity tbh. Enjoy your trip!

Any thoughts on why Eureka think they can charge so much for this single boiler hx? I’ve seen the PID + rotary pump version of this machine on sale for a little over £2k. In that price range you can get some well-built and kitted out dual boilers from ECM, Profitec, Lelit, and there are respectable SB HX’s that cost considerably less.

Image if you had hated this machine, the incredible opportunities to incorporate some George Costanza quotes. As for flow control, it's useful for grinding coarse and making a slow(er) drip "Americano." At least, that's my use for it as a strictly black coffee drinker.

Honestly, a e61 machine with the "Eureka" name does has a certain caché. However, I have the Rocket Mozzafiato, which has the PID display hidden behind the drip tray, so you can oggle the classic italian design instead of AliExpress. 😂

E61 is such an outdated, crap, technology. We have thermoblock technology, thermal jet technology etc. It's time to move on from outdated concepts.

It’s not about having the latest cutting edge technology. It’s about the reliability, and easy serviceability. Get an e61 and in 50 years it’ll still be running

@@senseidekkers5618 As if the Grouphead is the failure point. 99% of machine fail because of limescale. Rest 1% fail because of electrics like PID, heating element and boiler. saturated group > e61
