Thanks for the good information. Just FYI - Smart Shooter 4 software is a capture software that allows you to save Raw to the card and only transfer the jpegs when using Air Direct. Smart Shooter 4 is also compatible with Catalina. For anyone using Capture One Pro, you could set up a watch folder into COP.

Thanks Lauren for adding that!

Can you do this using without using Smart Shooter?

Best review so far. watch several Videos and you where the only one show people this working in real time and speed comparisons on but ends . Raw vs jpg and air vs cable.

Thanks, connection stability and speed were my main concerns so that's what I wanted to concentrate on. I'm thinking about revisiting in a few weeks though with a different setup.

Thanks for sharing. Very straightforward. Does the AirDirect work with OS Ventura?

This was useful, I recently was looking at this too, but had the same question as you. What would speed look like for sports? Went with a normal tether cable to be safe
@QuantzPhoto4 жыл бұрын
I couldn’t find a source online with exact transfer times so I thought I would try to provide something along those lines.

Would love to see a follow up video with this setup vs the eos r5 wireless transfer straight from the camera, as they have a 5ghz radio built right into them now

I believe that only works with Canon's software though...

I need more details on the downloads/firmware. Mine is spotty during sessions. I’m unable to depend on it. I’d love for it to be consistent. Thanks for your perspective and video.

Contact Tethertools since I was only testing it and didn't decide to keep it.

Very good material. I was just looking for a transfer speed comparison. I wonder if in the era of fast wifi built into the camera (like in S A7R IV) it still will be a good choise
@QuantzPhoto4 жыл бұрын
That’s definitely something to watch. I believe many of the cameras coming out in the future will have 5ghz WiFi built in but I guess we will have to wait and see how well they work...

@@QuantzPhoto Exactly, the market is moving in this direction. Wifi eliminates problem of trip over the cables. I used Sony A7R4 and transfer speed of RAWs looks almost like in your test (but Sony has 61MPix ) about 7-8 seconds

If your camera supports shooting JPEG + raw, it will automatically send the jpeg first, then the raw in the background.

I bought one of these back in June and tested it with Smart Shooter at home before trying it on a job. It was slow but I thought it would work, but the first time I tried it on an actual project it stranded me pretty quickly and I had to immediately stop using it and reshoot some stuff because it lost the photos it was attempting to transfer. I haven't had the nerve to give it another shot yet. I'm just not sure Wifi is the answer unless band width and transmission strength are greatly increased.

I'm still using Mojave because of some connectivity issues with Catalina. Check with TetherTools about possible updates.

The Air Direct has been abandoned (discontinued) by Tether Tools, and rightly so! The Air Direct is a POS! I have one and it is now a PAPERWEIGHT! Tether Tools REFUSED to give me a refund because I bought it through B&H. (I was outside B&H's return window). I went back & forth with Tether Tools IT "Support" for over 6 months with their bandaid fixes. Nothing worked.

Thanks for the info! It's a bummer because the idea is a good one if the tech could only catch up...
