Wirelessly control a Presonus 16.0.2, 16.4.2, or 24.4.2 mixer with any Android Tablet!!

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS VIDEO WAS MADE AND UPLOADED IN 2013 AND WAS APPLICABLE TO THE FIRST GENERATION PRESONUS STUDIOLIVE CONSOLES*
This is a workaround to wirelessly control a Presonus Studiolive mixer with an Android Tablet since Presonus does not offer a native app like they do for the iPad .
What's needed:
Presonus mixer (16.0.2, 16.4.2, or 24.4.2)
Laptop with Firewire connector or PC card adpater, Teamviewer software (free install)
Android Tablet with Teamviewer app (free from Play Store)
Either WiFi or a wireless hotspot (as demonstrated here)

I can´t thank you enough, i tried it on a mac, and works too with mi Presonus 16.0.2. I just bought it and I a can not afford tu buy an iPad at this moment, this method allows me to work so, again, thanks a lot! You have no idea how much this simplifies things to me and my two bands!

Thank you brother. You solved a big problem connecting the StudioLive mixer for ANDROID systems. Before we would have necessarily use the systems apple. we are now free to use the most popular and easy access systems. Thank you! Now I'm using a Smartphone Motorola MOTO X, Sansung galaxy note tablet controlling my StudioLive 16.4.2 Wonderful!

I'm glad it's working for you. Although I did recently buy a MacBook pro I still prefer the Android operating system for my mobile needs and will continue to use them instead of an iPad.

I just picked up a used Lenevo thinkpad and a used 16.0.2 (like new) and the same firewire setup..I use a PC card because the front 1394 is the smaller 4 pin and not very stable. Thank you!

Think it'll work well with Firestudio tube- cubaseLE4- dell firewire lap top too !!! That what I got, as already have a hotspot phone get myself a cheap tablet and try the way you do, sure it's a fun to do, I'm thinking of making myself "Just A Long Firewire" too !! Hi Vito, hopefully I am understanding your question correctly, but in order to use an android tablet to wirelessly control the studiolive mixer (for monitor mixing or front of house) you MUST have a computer running Universal Control attached via the firewire connection. Essentially all that is happening in this setup is that you are using the tablet to wirelessly control the laptop which in turn controls the mixer.

I do not know the brand of the PC card, but more important than the brand is the chipset on it since only certain ones work with Presonus gear. There is a list of manufacturers on their website and lots of useful information in the message boards. Check them out!

@Allen Ash i have a mixer 16.0.2 studio live digital mixer and i don't really know if my mixer can connect to a tablet or ipad coz im confusing right now someone told me the only presonus can connect to a ipad or tablet android is the presonis 16.0.2 that say A.I so im kinda lost which 1 is different?

The easiest way is if you have a MacBook and an iPad. This video is six years old and was a work-around for those who wanted to use an Android tablet which was not supported at the time. If you have Apple gear I'd suggest searching KZbin to find video tutorials on how to connect your iPad. Presonus' lack of native Android support is the main reason I left them.

I'm sure you can find a Firewire to USB adapter but technology is much different from 8 years ago when I made this video. This laptop had a plug in style adapter (I forget even what it's called) that they don't make anymore. Good luck!

Is your wifi with a router/access point link or Ad-Hoc (direct point to point between the laptop and tablet)?

As noted in the video, the phone was set up as a WiFi hotspot and both the laptop and tablet were connected to it. This setup would work with over any WiFi network but I chose this option for security and performance stability.

Nice info. But just to add this works on more than the VSL. It is not tied to 16.0.2 in anyway. It is tied to the laptop. It does not even need to attach tablet and laptop to the same Internet connection. I can use it with my Studio One not just the VSL. Nice find Alan. And yes a bit of a pain on my GS3 small screen and all.

Hi Frank. Yes, I agree and understand that Teamviewer provides more functionality than for just Presonus software products since it's simply a screen sharing program. The exercise was to replicate as much of functionality on an android tablet that Presonus offers with their native iOS app for the iPad. It's also true that it doesn't matter if the tablet and laptop are the same internet connection or wifi hotspot, but I demonstrated the process using a worst case scenario where there's no other wifi connection available since I seem to run into this quite a bit!

Hello, I'm not sure what model that laptop was because I made this video many years ago. I did eventually end up buying a MacBook Pro with a firewire port to take advantage of the native wireless control and have since moved on to a Behringer X32 Rack.
