The instructions in this video say "connect the tagged wire to the black wire on the dimmer" However the PDF instructions for the PD-5ANS/PD-6ANS say to tagged wire to the RED wire. Which one is right?

Hi Ben, Depending on the application (single pole vs. 3-way) both could be correct. If the Caséta Wireless switch is installed on a single pole circuit, the tagged wire (constant hot) would be connected to the black wire on the switch. If the device is installed on a 3-way circuit and is on the line side (where constant hot is located), the tagged wire would go to the black wire on the switch. If the devices is on the load side (where the switch leg to the fixture is located), the tagged wire would go on the red wire of the switch. Hope this helps!

Once again wrong. You people have no idea how a 3 way switch works. In every video or pdf the blue wire isn’t even used. So whoever designed these things is a moron

What is the blue wire for?

I understand that the blue wire isn't needed here, but I'm curious, what purpose does the blue wire serve?
@Lutron-Electronics
@Lutron-Electronics 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Ben, The blue wire would be used for 3-way applications with a traditional 3-way switch. For more information, please visit page 30 on the advanced installation guide www.casetawireless.com/Documents/0301710a_Caseta%20Advanced%20Inst.pdf. Hope this helps!

@@Lutron-Electronics It took me so many hours of research to figure out why my 3 way caseta set up with a mechanical switch wasn't working. I found my answer in the comments of your KZbin video. You should really provide these instructions right in the box or give better resources to find the answer. Happily, I have it all working now.

I had the same issue, the included instructions are inaccurate - and the link above from lutron is broken. But I found an updated one, check out page 28 of this doc: cache-m2.smarthome.com/manuals/66339-advanced-instructions-1b.pdf

After following these directions for the dimmer switch, the light didn’t come on. Then i find out from an electrician that the directions are wrong. The different colored screw is the grounded wire, which attaches to the green wire on the lutron switch

Is it necessary to install two switches or will the one work with a decora switch?
@Lutron-Electronics
@Lutron-Electronics 4 жыл бұрын
Hello James, In this video, we installed one Caseta dimmer and one Pico remote. This is because the setup was originally a 3-way with two switches controlling one light. Some Caseta models only work in a 3-way with Pico remotes. However, this Caseta model has a blue wire, and thus can also work in a 3-way with a standard mechanical switch. Here is a video that shows how that setup would be wired: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6vLmYBjaM12g5Y If you have any questions about wiring options for your dimmer model, we recommend referencing the installation guide. A digital version can be found at lutron.com/support. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

This video shows the marked wire attaching to the black lead on the Lutron device. The 3 way wiring instructions on the Lutron website show the marked wire attached to the red wire. Which one is correct? I debugged my install for an hour based on the instructions before I found this video, followed it instead and successfully completed my install.

Hi Greg, For a 3-way installation, the marked wire could be either line voltage or the load depending on which side of the 3-way is being examined. The common wire on the line voltage side of the 3-way will be going to the black wire of the dimmer. The common wire on the load side of the 3-way will be going to the red wire of the dimmer.

Does it matter in which location you hard wire the switch ex. Like the leg end or where the power is supplied in the three way
@Lutron-Electronics
@Lutron-Electronics 4 жыл бұрын
Hi James, depending on the dimmer and whether the neutral is needing to be connected, will determine which side (line or load) the device can be placed. We recommend reviewing the install guide of your device prior to installation. For more information on any device please visit our support site (www.lutron.com/support )

That generic reply doesn’t answer the question. Also all your tutorial videos point to the same video and the info is incorrect. If you’re capping off the travelers together then your three way circuit will not work. This is only valid in one scenario and you recommend it for every scenario. Which is utterly wrong. I came here with the same question only to find you didn’t really answer it correctly. I’ll figure this out on my own and return with the correct answer.

Obviously. I came here looking for answers as I came across this in the manual and it’s obviously not correct. They’re selling this “3-way” device and wiring it up in every scenario as if it’s a single pole switch with a remote.

why would you cap a bare unused copper ground? Whats the purpose?
@Lutron-Electronics
@Lutron-Electronics 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, Capping the ground wire at the Pico's location will prevent the circuit breaker from tripping. There is line voltage passing through the three wires that are capped together, and if line voltage comes in contact with the grounding wire, it will immediately trip the breaker. Hope this helps.

@@Lutron-Electronics But the ground is bare. there are another 3 inches that aren't covered. the cap only covers the end.
@Lutron-Electronics
@Lutron-Electronics 2 жыл бұрын
@@vibepusher2717 Hello, This is to ensure that the rest of the exposed ground wire does not come into contact with the wires carrying line voltage. The cap on the end of the ground would prevent the terminated end from interacting with one of the other wires. Thanks
