This is great! My bike came with no wiring at all so I have to build the harness from scratch. This video will be a big help.

Can you explain how to check running without the engine running? Should running come on when ignition switch is on?
@UrbanMonkTV

Yes, "running" lights come on with ignition, engine need not be running.

Did you connect the brake light wire to the brake light switch positive or ?

Well it's been 3 years and I don't have the wiring diagram in front of me, but all the "hot leads" on these bikes are positive as the ground/earth is negative. So, in short yes. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching!

Sir, What jet setting do you use on your gs550 with open air pods. Kind regards

I increased the main jets to 95 and left the others the same. I also added a more free flowing exhaust which affects airflow (and thus fuel) through the system. Thanks for watching!

@@UrbanMonkTV Thanks for the quick reply. I tried 95 also, but that resulted in pitch black spark plugs. How is the condition of your spark plugs ? Kind regards

Learning a lot about pretty much everything from your GS550 videos! In this video, I was wondering - you mentioned you used 16 gauge automotive wire to link/join lots of the cables at the rear of the bike that couldn't reach the wiring harness ends. I am a complete novice when it comes to anything electrical, and was wondering if there are specific types/size of wire that have to be used? For example, does it have to be the same gauge as the wires that are already in the bike? Any other factors that I wouldn't even know to ask about (e.g. perhaps some wire could be the same gauge but not compatible for some reason)? I may have also jumped the gun, as I am asking after only watching the first few minutes of the video, and perhaps you will answer these questions later in the video. Sorry if that is the case and I was too eager. Thanks!

Thanks for watching! Good questions. Yes, the gauge and type of wire does matter. Using a wire that is too small of gauge could cause resistance and heat build up. Stranded copper is preferred over solid as solid will break in time if moved and some motorcycle wiring moves, such as up near the steering stem. You can always use wire that is larger than stock (thicker gauge) just not smaller. I got an assorted set of 10 colors cheap on eBay. Hope that helps.

@@UrbanMonkTV Thanks so much for the reply! Makes sense to me, I'll try to lock that rule into mind - if not the same gauge, use larger, never smaller, and stranded copper over solid to defend against movement. Thank you! p.s. - I should add, I really appreciate how you really go through and show each and every step and process that you are doing, not skipping or assuming anything. For someone who is new to it, it can throw me off when someone skips showing a step and simply says, "I tested to make sure this was working, so now I can do this...", or something similar. Keep it up!

@@N5Gunner Thank you for saying so! It was my intention. I wanted to create a video service manual of sorts.

Did you have to change the turn signal relay to avoid fast flashing?
@UrbanMonkTV
@UrbanMonkTV 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I changed to LED lights and therefore needed a digital flasher relay. Thanks for watching.
