You are doing a great job on a car that was taking apart by someone else. It's good to see someone fixing it up it doesn't matter if it's a two door or a four door. They're old and lots of fun to have and drive. Well keep up the good work and be looking forward to seeing the next video. 😎

Wiring is not easy. You're a top notch mechanic. I just rewired a small trailer. I made a couple of small mistakes and nothing worked. Turns out I had a bad ground. My buddy Mike found it for me. Thanks for letting me hang in your shop again. Can't wait until you drive it.

Hey, I requested this video as well. Just came in the house and she WONT start. I’ll watch a few times and head back to the garage. I have a 57 Wagon and a 57 sedan (that you would take 2 doors off haha). We love the show, something positive that the whole family can watch and understand what my son and I are doing out there. We have bought merch and are huge fans. Thanks!!!

@@DDSpeedShop WHO HO!! Coming together as usual, on to the next PROJECT CAR???? A mid 60's CHEVELLE SS????? Anyway, good wiring job, just a few things to note: GROUNDS, GROUND STRAPS , from Firewall to motor and chassis and front sheetmetal, two, get a DYNAMO LABEL MAKER and make self adhesive labels for sockets and pigtails in dash, plus get a weatherpac connector for the instrument cluster and make it a plug and play unit...... If running get a ballast resistor inline or the wire too........Three, courtesy lights under dash, easy peasy to install ...hot wire to fuse box and breaks the ground at the door switches............LED's for plate lights and other stuff. makers it really bight and seen.........Four hit the butt connectors with shrink tubing to keep water out esp ones by the floor............and finally the blinker lights do not shut down the park lights, they interrupt the brake s while leaving the parks on ..........might want to look into 4 ways flashers and seat belts just to be safe......................... www.lategreatchevy.com/assets/pdf/lategreat/522543,%20TECH.pdf

As for the newer style alternator the brown wire can be used on the idiot light if yours has one to energize the charge cycle. Or you can wire in a seperate light for a idiot light to energize the alt.

I'm about to start wiring my 57. I'm using the AAW wiring kit. I hope I can pull it off. When I bought my car it didn't have a fuse panel. Where is the best place to mount it?
@larryz24
@larryz24 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimmy7376 The factory position is up on the driver side kick panel and that is a great place for it....the wiring would be the shortest lengths for a quick hook up. I rewired the entire car front bumper to tail lights so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. I use the AAW kit as well, but if you are using the AAW rear wiring kit as well, make sure of the wire pinouts to the harness connection before you energize. I found that the gas tank sending unit wire was misplaced and I shot 12V to a ground wire and toasted my sending unit. All of my kits were AAW so I assumed it would just work....LOL

Hi, thanks very informative! I have a question about the negative wire from the battery; the wiring diagram does not specify exactly where to hook-it. On mine it is tied to a bolt on the engine. But I don't see any bonding strap connecting the engine to the body as you see on all modern cars. Where is the body receives it's ground connection? All my electrical is working fine, just curious about this particular setting. Thanks!

Good video on wiring. It can be intimidating for sure. Usually when your gas guage pegs out it's because of grounding I think. At least the 57 don't have a 1000 wires. But even so with a diagram you should be able to get it done. Once you get over the shock of wtf. You really present yourself good. You explain things very well. But one question?. In a few videos back.( First test drive) you said lights are for sissys or something like that . What's up? Lol

confused about wire to generator on driverside you want to extend over to pass side to alternator but then you held up some wires to alternator on the pass side. are you using external voltage regulator alternator? or ?

the wire that needs to be hooked up in for the "gen" light. The heavy wire that is alread connected goes to the starter/battery. The gen light wire triggers charging.

Double D, your so close and maybe don't know, the fuel gauge works off the power side to gauge, the other going back to sender and the fun part is to see it go to full meaning that the gauge is good, the other is like a resistance ground meaning raising and lowering the fuel unit arm tells how well grounded it is. If its not grounding the gauge goes to full by default and when the gauge control is getting a "partial ground" through the resistance will start coming down towards empty. If you look at one out of the tank you will see the metal coil in that plate inside it and you can hook a ground wire to one out of the tank so it is well grounded and then the one one the sender that goes to gauge and raise and lower it and see the gauge work. The temp gauge works kinda the same way with one of those tall sending units that screws into the head and it is larger cause it works off resistance too just as after market ones do cause they all work on same principle. The short senders that go to the head work off temp and ground out using only the warning light. Hence the difference between the types of senders. Same with oil light as apposed to gauge. Hope this gets to you in time to help you. Wiring was the easy part for me and the system in front of you is way easier than rigs with ECM's and other goodies that will make sense if you work it backward also. Know what it does, figure which is power, which is trigger/sender, ABSOLUTELY make sure what your doing is well grounded and walla boom, done deal. What do I want to see, one of the four to two door conversions but that is asking too much. Been so long for me to twist wrenches and I know I could of worked with you cause if it doesn't pertain then it goes away for another day or gone if sure never change mind.
