I am a born and raised tip of the mitt rail fan. I spent extensive time around the D&M switching Proctor & Gamble in Chebygan as a kid. I lived along the right of way between Cheboygan and Mackinaw City during the last years of the Chief Wawatam. I took a trip up to Marquette in 1996 not knowing those rails too would soon be gone. Thank you for filming, preserving, and sharing those memories with all of us!

This is a good bit of history. The tracks from Munising through Marquette no longer exist. In fact, today the closest thing to rail service in Marquette is the LS&I to the ore dock north of Marquette. Munising now sits isolated at the end of the former DSS&A line from Trout Lake. Such is the state of our railroads.

Ethan Lamoureux actually Munising is at the end of the former LS&I from Munising Jct. DSS&A never went to Munising.

Technically true. I was just being succinct! The LS&I abandoned all their track east of Marquette except for the spur from Munising Junction to Munising, and the spur at Evelyn. Those were turned over to the Soo Line, which became Wisconsin Central, which became CN, as it is today. So today Munising sits at the end of the former LS&I, which is in turn at the current end of the former DSS&A, which now is owned by CN. Technically, the Munising branch started out as the Munising Railway Company, which later became the Munising, Marquette, and South Eastern Railway Company (MM&SE), which became the Lake Superior and Ishpeming (LS&I), all subsidiaries of the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company. One can spend a lot of time tracing railroad ownership and names! Corrections are welcome.

That darned #584 was a smoker....even standing still it would have a haze above it. Any time I saw #584 it was smoking. Does Canadian National still service the Mill or is that shut down, too?

CN still services the mill. AFAIK it's still in business.
