You can leave your line, you can leave your pole, we'll still go fishin' in the crawfish hole! Nick invited me to a crayfish boil, but we were still missing the main ingredient. We spent about an hour walking up and down his family's property on the Oconto River and we got into 'em good! From scoping them out until the last shell was cracked, this one was fun for all ages!

Nice. Love seeing how ppl outside of Louisiana do crawfish boils. There is a few ways to peel the tails with no utensils. I have noticed ppl up north always use butter to dip the meat as well. That’s different but it’s cool to see as I said. Enjoyed the video.

What an awesome family Crayfish hunting and catching adventure! You'll caught a mighty bountiful harvest of them! Those crayfish are truly mini Freshwater Lobsters! The Crayfish that you caught do look like tgey could be either the "Virile"/ :Northern" Crayfish species and possibly the "Big Water" "Robust" Crayfish species or a related species. The nets that you used do look like a very practical design, very effective as , you just scooped out loades of Crayfish, what an awesome effective way to go! Over the years in Crayfish Hunting/Catching, I discovered that using 16/18 inch long stainless steel Food Tongs are also a very effective impliment to use for catch Crayfish as an extension of one's hand! The long Food Tongs also serve as an effective Personal Safety Device against Poision Ivy, Snapping Turtles, Snakes other Wildlife and for safely picking up broken glass bottles, Light Bulbs etc. You can also dispatch and chop small fish as bait with the Long Food Tongs. As far as good traps go Crayster has excellent well designed and made traps. I use the Crayster Snake River Trap. Lots to choose from. Good job, keep the filmed Adventures coming! Wishing You Safe Crayfish Hunting/ Catching Adventures!

Man, if we would have set some traps they would be full in no time and the time we’d spend taking the 975 little ones out of the trap for the 25 big ones, I could just go and nab the 25 more that I’d want. For every 100 crayfish we see, we only go after the biggest few.

I’m guessing you guys have been told this but the “albino” ones are the locals . You can toss those ones back cause they’re native , but great catches on the rustys
@PlayinHookySportfishing
@PlayinHookySportfishing 2 жыл бұрын
The video is pretty bad at showing how light the crayfish was. More likely it was leucistic and not albino, but unfortunately there are no native crayfish in our rivers any more. That crayfish had very noticeable “rusty” patches on the carapace and claws. I think the thing is still alive in his aquarium.

I remember when me and my brothers caught hundreds of crayfish during a storm on Lake Michigan. They were just crawling on the beach. Our dad was grossed out that they came from Lake Michigan told us to throw them away so we ended up dumping the box over a teen couple making out in a cave on the beach lmao

I live near Antigo. What time of the year is the best to do this? Just walk shallow creeks/streams and look for them with the net?
@PlayinHookySportfishing
@PlayinHookySportfishing 2 жыл бұрын
My friends do this far more than I do, but their favorite time is June. Their shells get super hard later in the summer. It’s super easy to do, just find a river with a lot of rock/gravel.

Do you take the poop line out at all before eating?
@PlayinHookySportfishing
@PlayinHookySportfishing Жыл бұрын
Great question! We do not. Hopefully the 24 hours of sitting in the water and changing the water out will purge the crayfish and they'll be poop free. Can't taste either way, usually it is just a bit grittier. Don't think about it and you'll have no worries! Thanks for the comment! Please click the subscribe button if you haven't already!

Almost any water in Wisconsin has them, the best places have a rocky bottom where lots of crayfish can hide.

They’re all over the place. This particular river is in oconto county, but they’re all over Wisconsin. You have to find the spots where there’s a lot of gravel and rock.

@PlayinHookySportfishing

They’re an invasive species here in Wisconsin. Can’t really waste em in my opinion. Can always walk down to the river and get more and the ecosystem will be better for it.

That is not an albino Crayfish, its a rusty Crayfish. Your catching two different species there. Northern clearwater and Rusty.
