yep always check the gap from the top of the cylinder about 1" down works every time... use the piston to set the ring level inside the cylinder.....have fun...

What about the piston clearance if the cilinder have 87mm shoul i use a 87mm piston?

I red somewhere that it should not put the gap in line with the piston wrist pin.. But your diagram mentions putting compression rings gaps towards those....

Look up the ring gap position that the manufacturer recommends and put it there. Not all manufacturers do it the same way. The diagram from wiseco in video has the engine front labeled incorrectly, it should be pointing up.

you should not check ring end gap in the spigot area of the cylinder. You should use the piston as you did but slide it up to a inch or so from top. the spigot area is not supported by the cylinder and is often different.

+Robert Zenisek I agree if it is a used bore. The one in the video has a fresh bore job. If there is big difference from one end to the other, it's time for a bore job.

+A Motorcycle Nut The reason to check the piston ring end gap is to make sure that the ring is not to tight, or the engine will seize. If it's a little loose the worse that could happen is that the engine will smoke a little.

I just Got New S&S 3-1/2 +0.10 over my bore is 3 inch 580 th my rings gap was 22 th chrome moly top ring by the math the end gap should only be 0.17 th I can not stretch the rings and im worried of blow by Should I call S&S , they have a gap of 22 according to the heat of the chrome moly at S&S page , im at a loss

I would use what the manufacturer of rings recommend. In the video I was using what wiseco recommended for their piston rings. If you got S&S rings go with what they say it should be.

@@JCcanU let me see??? It all started out in 2001 when I got my first purchased S&S motor 124 super sidewinder motor. The first motor was a POS. I fought with them for over 3 months. Then they actually said they would give me a completely new motor. I did not want a “rebuilt” brand new motor. I wanted a brand new motor. Then it took another 4 months to get it shipped out to me. After that it took almost 2.5 months to get a complete “o-ring” kit for the upper head and rocker area. When in decell it would blow out smoking & I mean a lot of smoke. What really happened on my end was that I missed a complete riding season. After all was said & done. It cost me almost 15 thousand dollars & didn’t ride for that season at all!!! That’s why I’ll never buy anything from S&S ever again

No always go with the spec of the manufacturer of the piston. If you use OEM stuff go with the OEM specs. If you use Wiseco of other piston manufacturers parts use their specs, because different materials expand at different rates and all manufacturers are not the same.
