I watched the whole series in about two weeks and loved almost all of it. The writing is often so freaking brilliant I can't believe it's still good. And Danny Devito just gets better and better. Season 13 felt different for sure, but to me it still felt like a natural continuation for the series, almost like they'd earned the right to try new things in order to keep it fresh after 12 solid seasons. I really seriously liked season 13 a lot. It had couple weak episodes, but many seasons do. I especially liked the Mac's pride episode and I'm quite surprised so many people here don't like it, as I could never have imagined such a beautiful episode from Always Sunny, it left me kinda breathless, being the finale for the series so far. And for the record, I don't really care for that kind of dancing, but couldn't turn my eyes away and probably looked the same as Frank's reaction. To me the episode was perfect conclusion to the mac's over-played closet-joke. It actually lifted my already high opinion of the previous seasons, because it ties up few sub-plots so well while being true to the characters. The pride episode was clearly an important one for Rob McElhenney and he worked his ass off to pull off the dance routine. I think people should give at least this episode another chance and remember that the guy who is behind all of this great series wanted to make this important episode like it is, with extra effort. This is one of the only properly redeeming episodes for any members of the gang. They're horrible human beings, but this one time after 13 seasons two of them managed to make something truly beautiful happen and in the process understand one another. I think it probably helped the episode and season that I marathoned the whole series. If I had waited the S13 week by week my reaction to it would most likely be very different. I'd be disappointed I didn't get a classic Sunny episode after a long week's wait. Watching it all at once, the s13 felt like proper try at change and 'self-reflection' and not disappointing at all. I hope people discover the greatness of S13 in their reruns.
@mr.ultrafino68916 жыл бұрын
I absolutely adore IASIP but I was never able to explain why I love it so much to my wife (although we do have pretty simmilar taste in movies and TV shows). She is not a popculture geek as I am, she did not appreciate all the subtle references and hints and basically thought the show is just bunch of people yelling at each other. When the S13 finale came out I made my last effort and practically forced her to watch it - I literally asked her to watch it as a personal favor to me, which she did (bless her), although she really did not want to. When the episode ended she said: "I get it" with tears in her eyes. Just like Frank did.
@Drood.6 жыл бұрын
`The thing about Mac's pride episode is, despite being able to appreciate how skilled and intricate the dance is, many people, myself included, just don't find watching a dance very entertaining, and the dance did take up a large portion of the episode.

The episode "The gang tries desperately to win an award", which is also their 100th episode, is about how they've never won an award. If a show makes it to 100 episodes, it's a big deal and is more than likely a good (award winning) show. The episode was a metaphor for them accepting and acknowledging that they may not be for everyone, but they have their audience and anyone who doesn't like them can "go fuck yourselves".

When I went into the final episode of Season 13 I was kind of expecting the usual It's Always Sunny psych out, and that's probably why I was so floored by the result. Frank's "I get it" at the end nearly had me in tears. It was refreshing to see a potentially bad plot line handled so tactfully. (Plus I'm always a slut for some Sigur Rós) It'll be hard to top that, but if anyone's up to it it's the Always Sunny crew.

Another episode worth mentioning is "The Gand Misses the Boat" in which almost every character tries to change their lives in one way or another. In the beginning of the episode Dennis even complains about how they never change. Then we're presented with the atrocious romance between Dee and Charlie, Dennis' inability to let go of his car, Frank's inability to incorporate new characters and Mac's denial of his sexuality as if the show was asking: "what the hell do you want from us? Do you want a romance story from Dee and Charlie? No, of course you don't, so stop complaining about the lack of change and enjoy what you've loved for so many years."

Among fan circles, you'll hear a lot of people say that this was either the best or worst season of the series. Some feel like this season relied on too many callbacks, some feel like Rob McHelleney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton should've written more episodes, some didn't like how the show sort-of paid heed to political correctness more than usual (a few more female writers and directors than usual, one of which, Megan Ganz, was the victim of Dan Harmon's extremely misguided romantic conquest while writing for Community; an episode devoted to calling the gang out for their past sexual harrassment, censoring slurs that weren't previously censored, treating Mac's struggles with his sexuality seriously, etc.), and some just plain missed Dennis. I, however, think that a show that can evolve with the time it's being made in without too often feeling like it's pandering to any one particular political alignment is truly a mark of good TV, and as good a confirmation as any that Sunny has two more seasons in it.

7:00 i dont agree. that repetition in himym was much more of a deleuzian repetition than any other example given. while it appears the same it works very differently, in a way repetition of this scene from the very first episode does not simply undermine (as many fans thought) the series but gives it all a completely new meaning. it reframes it from being a sort of millennial dream of being old and successful and looking back at their wild and fun youth that in an end worked out to this view of "its never too late live and love" while at the same it explains the running gag of why the story started where it started and why he was talking about all this other stuff all the time. i think if you just watch first 3 (maybe 4) seasons and just add last 2 epidsodes it is an amazing series (but everything from season 5 to finale sucks ballzzzz).

13th season wasn't the best, but wasn't the worst either. i still think it was very enterteining, like every season of the show is. that's why we love it so much in the first place. the mac dance was incredible.

The episode where they recreate an old episode but with women seems more like a jab at all the movies that want to just copy old male focused movies and replace them with women. Just to have them fail. Or did they just predict it would happen? Idk the time line.

Most American sitcoms drag on and suck after the early seasons, especially the ones with s laugh track after every sentence 😂
